Young girl gets dog,

Teachers it to jump every time it hears the word “jump “.

Girl leaves room and young boy enters.

Boy says “jump “ - what happens?

(mRNA is just a dog with less pointy teeth than it’s DNA friend )

Nope, still no idea. I was about five when vaccines were explained to me in terms of letting your immune system be primed by a tiny dosage of a disease so that it was ready when the real thing came along. Made perfect sense to me. Didn't involve any dogs.

Children aren't idiots. Teach them what happens in scientific/ medical terms not some story about a dog.

It always baffles me why people do this along with not teaching them the correct anatomical names for their genitals.

You don't need to teach 10 year olds about vaccines...

They are much smarter than you seem to think and most will already know about this stuff. They will already have had vaccines for other things... They would laugh at your ridiculous explanation above..

I couldn't sleep last night waiting for the answer to this riddle.

So, what happened? Did the dog bite the boy's face off? Where did the girl go? Were the girl and the dog ever reunited?

I think 10yr olds are way smarter and savvy then we think and certainly more now than when we were 10!

IMHO this metaphor might work for a 5yr old but at 10yrs just tell them about immune system.

I'd go something like this.

"The immune system is part of your body that helps protect you from germs. They detect things that are different from you in your body and attack them.

Vaccines work by showing your body a version of an illness. Most vaccines use a weakened form of an illness. The Covid vaccines use a fragment of Covid, called the spike protein.

After reacting to this, the body can react more quickly when it encounters the real illness"

Admittedly, back in my day we were still playing around with HPV, Rotavirus and DNA recombinant tech.

It wasn’t meant to a teaching exercise...

Just a play on how many people nowadays have become professionals in genetics by watching a tv program...

Ok, try this...

The immune system is like google.

Initial information is stored away.

Reference to a particular piece heightens the system’s awareness of it and others that show similarities.

More references means raising on the search system.

Etc etc...

Surely that one can’t annoy people - no dogs or mention to age

"Young girl gets dog,

Teachers it to jump every time it hears the word “jump “.

Girl leaves room and young boy enters.

Boy says “jump “ - what happens?

(mRNA is just a dog with less pointy teeth than it’s DNA friend )"

To be fair, this analogy is complete bollox.

The dog is the vaccine, so you're saying that one person tells the vaccine something, and then you thing the vaccine will respond to what they're telling it.... and then someone else tells the vaccine the same thing and the vaccine responds in the same way because it's heard those words before... that makes ZERO sense.

You mean those same fact checkers still closing youtube accounts for anyone having the opinion that it was a lab leak, or those fact checkers that labelled anthing that disagreed with our total honest and never lying at governments approach "misinformation"?

I think the meaning of the word fact has been been well and truly lost throughout this pandemic and both extremes of the pointless covid "sides" are equally guilty of it.

In summary, I have zero faith in so called fact checkers.

If a dog walks into an empty room and it barks - do we hear it? Makes about as much sense as the drivel you’ve written. Most kids understand how an injection works on a basic level. Find a 5 year old to explain it to you …

This is a terrible way to describe it.

Try this instead -

Typically vaccines work by showing the body an illness and giving it the ability to fight it off.

However mRNA is supposed to work by giving the body blueprints to build the needed proteins and cells.

The problem here is that you seem to believe thoroughly debunked lies. You could easily look up a fact check for this sort of thing if you wanted.

And you believe that if the news tells you your going to die unless you get endless vaccinations it must be true ..

You could look up fact checking on the lies if you want. As I said above.

Mmmmm the same “fact-checkers” like full fact who are paid by the pharmaceutical companies and mr Gates’s foundation can’t see nooo conflict of interest there and you can fact check that "

Have they all got the same sudden illness?

The downside to sudden illnesses is they happen. Sometimes with no discernable cause. And when it happens you really want to find an excuse or a reason, something, anything to blame.

I suspect this will vary between children. I asked why all the time. Ha.

The explanation I gave above was approximately what I was told (minus the Covid bit, I added that) at about that age.

Or building trust between child and caregiver. (Why are you making me do this thing, I don't like it?)

Or getting a basic understanding of the world that will help with their education and maybe even career (stuff falls when you drop it because of gravity. The immune system helps protect you from germs. etc)

Why do you assume it’s your job to stuff the child’s mind with your chosen information.

Better to sit down with that child and say “let’s find out about vaccines”.

You might learn something yourself.

"Why do you assume it’s your job to stuff the child’s mind with your chosen information.

I do, in fact, think it's the job of adults to teach children about the world, including science.

I might engage a child of this age in an internet search on vaccines. However, the lesson would be two-fold. One, what can we find out about vaccines? Two, how do we work out what sources are reliable?

It's a wild world out there and it will stand a child in good stead to learn about vetting sources.

I recently learned, via an unvetted source, that the Covid vaccines were population control made with a conspiracy of Martians and the global elite, which infect humans and render them infertile - stopped neither by distance from the vaccinated or time. So your grandparents might have already been infected, even if they died long before 2020. It also turns people into non-humans, and this will be used to usher in the end of democracy.

You might "learn" something new if you're not careful, I'm sure, if by "learn" you mean "consume unmitigated horseshit".

How come there’s only people who want vaccines or are anti vaccine?

Does it not make sense to vaccinate the people who are vulnerable and not the fit healthy people?

I’m not going to give my opinions as it opens a can of worms. I will say though that all the hard data is in the public domain and it’s not difficult to find. If you read it there are questions you are likely to ask, especially of the media “facts”

Both a "fit healthy" unvaccinated person and an elderly unvaccinated persons immune system cannot fight the covid virus without the covid antigen. Without the vaccine, a "fit healthy" person is just as likely to get ill from covid as an elderly person.

Exercise does affect your immune system function, but it does not boost your immunity.

The difference lies in how vulnerable you are. An elderly person is more likely to develop serious complications from the coronavirus.

This is why it's important for everyone to be vaccinated.

But I'm sure you wont care for a factual answer

No need for that I’m sure

I think you’ve misunderstood me anyway

I know a fit healthy person can contract covid. However as it’s very unlikely to be life threatening or cause long term damage I see no need to vaccinate.

However an immuno compromised person or an asthmatic person for example have a much higher risk factor and would benefit from vaccination in my opinion.

I don’t see what’s so offensive about my opinion. It’s how the flu jab is used and for the same reasoning.

The death stats would say otherwise. Age and health played a massive factor in how bad your outcome was. So yes, being young fit and healthy was a massive factor.

Out of about 100(ish) pro and amatuer boxers/mma fighters I know both personally and professionally. Not one had more than a miserable few days with covid. They all have one thing in common, they take care of themselves physically.

Let's not pretend that taking care of your body and health doesn't have an impact and being vaccinated is the only way to a good outcome. Especially a vaccine that doesn't stop you from getting covid.

Lets not forget the lessons of the past either.

Gulf War syndrome is not a nice thing.

There's risks both ways and they are different for us all depending on personal factors.

We all have to make an informed decision for ourselves.

Why people feel the need to enforce their own decision on other people baffles me.

"Without the vaccine, a "fit healthy" person is just as likely to get ill from covid as an elderly person."

Yeah still dont get it. Would be good if there was some evidence though of young people getting ill from covid in the same nunbers as thosr elderly ones getting setiously ill... Whatever getting ill with actually means. I thought it was well proven that the best defence against getting seriously ill from covid was not being old and not having comorbidities... But ive been away from the coal face for a while!

The claim that that person is presenting is that unvaccinated people get sicker than vaccinated people. Which the statistics continue to bear out.

(Yes I know, unvaccinated person X had it and it was just a sniffle. I said "statistics" not "anecdote")

No that isnt what they wrote at all... This is what they wrote.

"An elderly person is more likely to develop serious complications from the coronavirus.""

They wrote both. Go back and read it

"Lets not forget the lessons of the past either.

Gulf War syndrome is not a nice thing.

There's risks both ways and they are different for us all depending on personal factors.

We all have to make an informed decision for ourselves.

Why people feel the need to enforce their own decision on other people baffles me."

This seems an exceedingly odd thing to write on "how to explain vaccination to a child"

We can also explain tattoos to a child. No one is making anyone getting tattoos either.

You know I'd forgotten the title as I got into the conversation.

Thanks for pointing it out.

I'd tell a 10 year old a vaccination is a little drop of the disease that's already dying. So when it's inside you it can't hurt you. But your body is clever and seeing it dying works out how to fight it off if the proper disease gets inside you.

"How come there’s only people who want vaccines or are anti vaccine?

Not following how you go from...

"An elderly person is more likely to develop serious complications from the coronavirus."

To "This is why it's important for everyone to be vaccinated."

Check the last sentence of the first paragraph of that.

As you say, physician, heal thyself.

What I don't understand is why people seem to think it's OK to push their personal views on other people. If you believe in having a jab to protect you, then go for it. If you believe that the jabs are fake and will make you sick or die, then don't have them. It's personal choice. If a parent decides their child should be inoculated against whatever, then as a parent that is their choice. Some people feel it necessary to force their opinions on other people. Personally I don't care if someone does or dosnt believe the covid jabs, or any other jabs are of benefit or are bogus, its personal choice. Ffs get on with your own lives and leave people to make up their own minds !!! Just saying !

I thought that forums were a place to discuss opinions. In a section called "virus" in the 2020s, presumably one would find opinions on such matters?

I don't think anyone drags people into this section, props eyeballs open with matchsticks, and forces them to read.

"Young girl gets dog,

Teachers it to jump every time it hears the word “jump “.

Girl leaves room and young boy enters.

Boy says “jump “ - what happens?

(mRNA is just a dog with less pointy teeth than it’s DNA friend )"

If that's your explanation of vaccines, I'd rather ask a 10-year-old for an explanation.

I believe this was meant to be a joke about misinformation? Obviously it didn't work.

Good science education everyone.

Teach your kids how to think, not what to think. Guide them to quality sources and teach them how to vet sources. That'll help save them from conspiracy nutbaggery.
