Last year on my pcp

Jump to: Newest in thread

Wirral

Into the last year on my pcp on a SV650 and have absolutely no idea what I’m going to get next.

I bought the bike to commute and then a few months later lockdown happened and I was working from home for over a year so no riding, changed jobs now so can ride to work again. Not as far but I drive a car with a dpf and the short journeys aren’t good…

Bikes I’m considering

Suzuki

GSX S750

GSX S1000

Kawasaki

Z900rs

Yamaha

MT09SP

Anybody ride the above and offer any advice for or against

Thanks in advance

With the styles of bike you have listed I would recommend a triumph 765RS.

Even though it’s not on your list.

What about triumph tiger sport or bmw f900xr

Or if your feeling flush the s1000xr te they are outstanding

Test ride them all and see which suits you best

I looked at loads of bikes and tested a few before picking my new bike

Had a look today

Preferring the F900r SE

QS, heated grips, even cruise control on one I looked at

Quite reasonably priced too

What are BMW servicing costs like though

Heard some big numbers mentioned

Ive had my ST1100Y for over 14 years now - and no plans to change it even though it has over 440k miles on it!!!

Its a big heavy beasty but even with a full tank (6 gallons!!!) it handles lovely and can be very nimble.

If you go for Yamaha don't bother with the MT09, get the 10

It’s £200.00 per service but I got my first service included in the deal

That’s not too bad at all

Thank you

Definitely put the F900R SE on the list or a decent used s1000r if I can find one nearer the time

10 is a bit more bike than my skill level

Like the black edition

Have you done any touring on it at all

My bike will be predominantly a round town commuter but the idea of getting away for a weekend appeals

Seen a few reviews on motorcycle news that the electrics failed and another going on about corrosion and the manual saying bike should be washed and cleaned after every ride or warranty is voided

Not sure how that can be proven

Mine was predominantly commuter and days out and used all year round after 5 years it still looks great, only issues I had was squealing front disc that was sorted under warranty and the brown seat would go blue/purple in rain that was changed and nothing since and that has been it, bike has never ever failed to let me down, my absolute favourite bike by a mile.

Will never sell.

I have never had issues re washing every day etc, it certainly did not get washed every day and at times every week was a push

PM if you want more info

I don’t really get it?

I have had motorbikes for well over 40 years and love to personnel them by either modification, upgrade, alteration and general customisation.

PCP is just long term rental in reality so you lose out on so much of what makes bikes great?

Why not save up a bit and just buy one you really want, then enjoy all the possibilities?

As I say, don’t get it?

I get what you’re saying but PcP just suits me

I’m not into modifying other than adding a little crash protection.

I’m all in now so I have some equity when it comes to swap the bike which will reduce the payments on the new bike.

If I find I bike I love I’ll purchase the bike after the pcp period is up

If not I’ll move onto what ever next bike I like

Thank you Mr exiled

Definitely high up the list now

Saw a black on the trader for about 8500 and only has 440 miles on the clock

Hoping somewhere has something similar when the pcp is due

Can't comment on the Suzuki's personally, but got a few friends with GSX-S's which they use to tour and commute and seem happy with. If you're looking at those, maybe also consider the CB1000R, another good comfy all rounder.

Personally wouldn't opt the MT09, they're generally cheaper than the rest for a reason - the suspension isn't as good, the seat is like a wooden board, and the throttle is like an on off switch. Not for me.

Quite like the Triumph Tiger Sport and the Tiger 900 GT, they were high on my list last time I changed. Very comfy.

BMW, agree with the F900XR comments, cracking bikes. However personally I'd look at the 1250Rs or 1250R over the S1000r. S1000 is a cracking bike, but it also has the turning circle of a Boeing 747.

Personal bias towards BMW - they're not the cheapest to buy, I went second hand and was happy with what I got for my money (in a lot of ways more bike for your money than with many of the other manufacturers). Servicing can be extortionate from a dealership, but if you plan to keep it beyond warranty then don't bother with the dealership stamp, any reputable garage will be fraction of the cost and just as good. They do have their downfalls, some models were a bit rust prone, but if you keep it clean and treat it with ACF50 in winter, they're not bad. My previous BMW and current both showroom condition and used all year round. Currently on an R1200GS.

Happy bike hunting!

Thanks for the response

I have looked at the CB1000r stunning bike especially loving the black edition

Heard the stock suspension isn’t up to it though and a bike of the price should have cruise control on it..

Not rally a fan of the tiger adventure bike style at this point but maybe in the future

The turning circle on the sv I have isn’t the best to be honest

Seeing lots of good reviews on the mt09 sp version think the suspension is upgraded from the stock 09

I was waiting to see what the new 2022 XsR 900 was going to look like but I’m not like that seat or the bikes looks in general

Have to keep an eye on the reviews on some of the bikes suggested

Once again thank you for your suggestions
