Contemplating doing nc500 near Easter time .. I'll be tenting on campsites and wild camping aswell. Going to do it over perhaps a 6 or 7 day trip.. let me know when your heading up and where you are staying .always happy to meet members |

You’re going at the right time of year, either early Spring or October. The NC route has become over popular without the quality of roads (single track in many parts) or infrastructure to support it.
I’ve travelled through every road in the north mainly for hiking. Heading back next month to climb Beinn Klibreck, the daylight is still a bit lacking and weather unpredictable this time of year. |

The A9 from Perth is currently a bit chaotic with the work ongoing for dualling large parts of it.
There are alternatives to avoid, which will take you up some beautiful scenery on the west coast, but much longer and slower, or up the east coast which is not so scenic.
The shortest distance from Perth to the furthest part of the north coast is at least 250 miles.
One campsite worth a mention is Ullapool, it has everything nearby.
Food and drink, Ceilidh place at the back of the campsite. Excellent chipper opposite the ferry terminal. Good Indian restaurant next to the campsite.
There are several stops for vans on the way north from Ullapool, Knockan has shower facilities is free, with donation box.
The scenery of the North West Highlands is unlike anywhere else.
Climate probably lot cooler and wetter than what you may be used to. Having worked there snow is not unusual at that time of year, but not likely.
Anything else you need to ask feel free to message.
