Can anyone recommend a campsite on the coast that has some privacy (woodland perhaps?) and allows campfires? I hate being in an open field arse-to-elbow with a thousand other people.

Studland summer camp is ok

Not sure about woods or privacy

And depends how close to the coast you want to be

Burnbake near studland sounds ideal for you. Fires and trees there. Most up on the coast Dorset sites are exposed,so trees are a bit rare you may find generally . You just turn up at burnbake and pitch no booking needed

Sandy Hill Lane, nr Woolgarston, Dorset, BH20, 5JA they have a website. It's not exactly near studland more north of harman's cross in swanage seems very vanilla only open for a very short season .

I ended up at Harmans Cross. Two other sites were full. It's ok. Good facilities but it's all on a slope.
