The Rise of Meta Glasses

I’ve been thinking about the growing popularity of Meta smart glasses, and I genuinely believe they’re something the lifestyle community needs to discuss.
One of the things that makes clubs feel safe is knowing everyone can relax without worrying about being filmed or photographed. Meta glasses blur that line. Even with a recording light, it’s not always obvious whether someone is recording, taking photos, livestreaming, or simply wearing them.
For many people, that uncertainty alone could stop them from feeling comfortable enough to attend a club or event.
I’m not suggesting everyone who owns a pair has bad intentions. Most probably don’t. But clubs have always had rules that aren’t about mistrusting individuals—they’re about protecting everyone and maintaining a safe environment.
Would it be reasonable for clubs to ban smart glasses in the same way many already restrict cameras and mobile phones in certain areas? It seems like a sensible step to protect members’ privacy and give everyone peace of mind.
I’m interested to hear what others think. Should lifestyle clubs introduce a “no smart glasses” policy, or do you think the current rules are enough? |

Although this refers to nightclubs in general in Berlin you are not allowed to have and recording equipment at all
My advice would be is that they are within the same rules which clubs already have. |

The problem is this is wearable technology so as normal in clubs you’d be asked to leave your phone in a locker, if you are a glasses wearer no one will think about you getting filmed. It’s surprising how many times I’ve found guys in clubs with a phone sticking just above their towel to try and record people. I really think this is going to be a massive problem going forward unfortunately |

Yes, clubs should explicitly ban them.
But in the long term, I doubt it will make any difference, because as technology progresses, I'm sure we'll end up with cameras in small bits of jewellery.
We don't worry about it because we're too old and ugly for anyone to want to film. You should all try it one day. |

"Definitely ban them. There's been many instances of people, particularly women, being filmed without their knowledge, as it's just not obvious when they're being used."
Sometimes I feel that the only long term solution is to make it mandatory for all adults to post nude pictures online. Then we'd all be like, who cares? |

The only possible good use for them, would be as assistive technology, to support someone who is visually impaired. And they would not be permitted to record a saved movie, merely to help guide their movement.
Clubs should expand their block on recording equipment, to include glasses. Advanced notice would potentially need to be prominent, so that someone using them for their specs, brings an alternative pair, without integrated cameras. You wouldn't dream of taking a camcorder, so glasses with a camera should be a definite no. |

Just seen that they've been banned from courts and lots of restaurants, bars, clubs etc have already banned them.
They are fairly easy to spot close-up as heavier frames than normal and tiny camera of course but at a quick glance not so easy. |

Smart Glasses with the ability to record have always been banned at our V2V Club. It does fall into the recording equipment rule. But we have always specifically mentioned them on our rules page of our website. |

There are at least ten or more clips available on X taken from Le Glamour club through their CCTV. So yes clubs have to be careful with all the tech devices, including smart watches, lockets and glasses, having any sort of chip. |

There are free apps available that scan the area and sound an alert when these glasses are detected.
It might be a useful tool for people working club reception desks, behind the bar, and security to have. |

Presumably by looking for the Bluetooth device name. Which will be great for a few months before someone in the far east starts shipping glasses that you can change the device name in... |

I started a separate thread about clubs using CCTV in play areas.
This just proves that my concerns are valid! |
