Hi all we are new to this but are looking to go to a club soon. What was your first time like? Good and bad experiences

Our first club experience was... nervous, not sure what to expect, not sure if we'd fit in, if everyone (or anyone!) would be friendly. We weren't sure if we'd want to play with anyone, or if they'd want to play with us.

So with that in mind, we went without any expectations.

We were met by a great host, friendly reception, shown round by people we'd chatted to on Fab, loved the place, enjoyed meeting people and felt welcomed.

Such a great experience, we felt stupid for not trying it years earlier! (A bit like swinging in general, really!) We've been back to the same club many times!

The second different club we visited was friendly and fun too, as was the third, and the fourth... We've always been a bit boggled by the people who say they've had a frosty reception in any of those clubs, or that everyone was miserable... Perhaps what you experience is a mirror of how you are!

Whether we play or not, meet anyone new or not, we always have a good time.

Oh - meant to add about bad experiences...

Played with some people who had some unresolved jealousy issues... turns out she wasn't fine for him to play ( or at least, for him to appear to be enjoying it! ) escalating into a big argument and drama. More than a bit of alcohol may have been involved too. So now, we don't play with anyone who's had plenty to drink as a result, or anyone who doesn't seem like a reasonably balanced couple.

Have seen a few arguments break out, and almost always as a result of too much drinking. In most cases resolved by the staff quickly and efficiently.

Have seen and experienced a couple of times where single guys have overstepped a mark and had to be told to stay out of it. One was a case of misread signals, another was a case of a guy just ignoring and trying his luck hoping that in a group he could get away with it - again, dealt with by staff very well with them getting ejected. Put a downer on the fun for a few minutes... but only a few

Have experienced one time where someone (a single guy) had their phone out in a play area, supposedly checking messages. Offered to help them put their phone away in a dark place where it wouldn't trouble them with reception. They got the hint and left sharpish.

We tend to go for couples nights more often than mixed, so don't get many issues. The majority of our club visits are fun and completely without incident!

We've also learnt to not be subtle when telling people 'yes' or 'no'. That definitely helps!

The hardest part of your first time is the walk from the car to the front door!

After that it's easy!

If you just go with a view to having a drink, a dance and taking each other home at the end of the night - you can't go wrong

Have to agree with the previous poster, the hardest part was getting there. Once we got to the club everyone was so friendly. Of course, we were very nervous.

Just don't have any expectations and don't worry about playing. Get settled and enjoy your time. If it's for you there will be plenty of chance to play on future visits

If your really nervous, go with the view to just being a social visit, to test the place out for future visits.

Watch a few others playing (this will help) and if you feel comfortable and the mood takes you, then go to a room (private or not up to you) and play with each other, taking time to explore and experience how you feel, then next time you visit you will remember that night and will be more confident.

Hope this helps x
