Block Feature
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hi
I know how it works within chat rooms, but is it possible to block someone who posts in the forums?
We added someone to our block list, but we can still view their posts are still visible within the forums.
Any clarification will be greatly appreciated. |

When it is your site and you make the rules, then you can have as much freedom of speech as you like.
Until then, Admin decide what they want on the forums.
If a person doesn't like that, they can always use the delete button on their account page. |

chatting in the forum
i chat to quite a lot of people who have single guys blocked for messages
so under your new system i will no longer be able to chat with them or many others
and to be told that if i dont like it to leave the site
they do say power corupts and total power corupts totaly
having been a site supporter from the very start i feel this attitude is not called for
as i said in another thread it is one idea that sounds good till you look fully at it then all the snags start cropping up
most of the posts will be imposable to make any sense of and will make a mockery of such a good site (up till this idea was drempt of )
and may i ask addmin how many have asked for this new feature ?
if this does go ahead i will be thinking very hard about renewing my site supporters

Actually if you are talking about me saying if people don't like how the site is run they don't have to stay, I think you have purposely took my post out of context.
I was commenting on something that had gone off topic, not about having a bock for a forum.
I don't decide what the site owners introduce, but I do have a voice as a member when I think someone is being provocotive on a thread that has nothing to do with the subject just for the hell of it and I am allowed that opinion |

this was regarding freedom of speech which is a part of the blocking debate
and was not off topic
and if all threads that question that will be closed then the forums are as good as dead |

I think this is getting silly now.
I really don't want to keep repeating myself so won't bother.
Using a block button on a forum was what the thread was about not free speech, but my opinion still stands.
So Admin don't miss it any feedback, it is better in one place.
If you don't like that, then you are best mailing Admin direct from the contact button as my opinion won't change because you don't like it. |

excellent it will be great to be able enjoy the forums without having to read the crap from the people on my block list and no doubt they will enjoy life not having to read what I put in the forums.

Perhaps Admin will do that but you might miss out mate, a lot of couples who are happy to meet single guys have this option ticked so that they are not inundated with mails from guys, then they browse profiles to see who they would like to contact. |

Do we really need a block feature in the forum? If you don't want to read what particular posters have to say then don't read what they post, or am I missing something?.
Would be interesting to be able to see who or how many have blocked us though, lol. |

That's about the most sensible thing I've read so far, it is quite simple, if you don't like it, don't read it. I really fail to see what all the fuss is about, blocks for this, blocks for that, buttons for something else.
What difference does it make if somebody on your block list reads what you have typed or vice versa ? It really cannot be classed as a major incident. I really think people need to get a grip and stop expecting to be spoon fed and have their whims pandered to like a bunch of spoiled kids.

OK serious question ...............
Are we just talking about not being able to see the posts of profiles on our own personal block list, or if people have blocked you will you be unable to see what they have posted ?
For example there is a couple on here that must have blocked Furry Boots as I tried to check out their profile (no idea why but hey) if a post comes up from them will I see who posted but not be able to read what they said ?
If this is the case are you not going to get lots of people realising they are blocked by certain people and not knowing why and that causing a bit of bother ?????????

I have to say that I agree with the last 2 comments as can't see the point in not being able to see posts from blocked people or people who have blocked you - there'd be loads of gaps!!! |

Not sure how they are going to do it, but if it was possible to do... maybe an option of using the block button on the forums seperate from the block button you have for mails.
That way you could choose wether you wanted the blocks to carry on through to the forums or not. |

Is it not much much much simpler just to ignore the posts from posters you dont want to read ????
They already cant "badmouth" anyone, and other than that who cares about what anyone you dont like posts ??? |

Can't say I think it's a good idea. It's will be like watching question time with half the mikes turned off.
PM blocking I can understand and def chat blocking ,but forum blocking ???
You can clearly see the posters name at the head of thier post's . Don't like the poster don't read the post.
I don't go out and buy the Daily Mail and then burn it cos I think it's right wing rubbish

can I add another wrinkle to the "block" forums arguement....
if this goes ahead.. what happens if someone holds a "social" on behalf of the site and they have people blocked?
as people always say, they can block someone for any reason they like! but if the person requesting to go didn't know they were blocked the other person would not have seen that request to begin with...
actually..... just because you might not like a persons opinions is that a good enough reason to block it? wouldn't the best course be to challenge that opinion or to ignore it??

No one has to read anything that is posted in the forum, it's up to you what you choose too read. As for the person you have blocked not being able to read your forum posts, I doubt it will work that way. It would make the forum Mods jobs impossible especialy if some miscreant blocked all the mods and went on a malicious posting spree |

If anyone blocks my forum posts, then I would like to know who, so I can say things about them they can't see. lol

seriously though, this is an ADULT site, do we really need to block peoples posts on the forum? just pass on by, or is it a lack of self control the real problem?. |

the block button can be a good thing, many people block those who are not what they are looking for and in turn preventing them from forgetting then re-contacting with the same questions which i think is quite good in a way.
The major down on the blocking is that the blocked person can then click into the forums and basically hassle you there (from ongoing experience). |

But if someone is actively causing you grief via the forums Admin will deal with them after you have reported the fact.
