Age verification
Jump to: Newest in thread
I assume Admin will have a message drafted that will be sent out nearer the time
It doesn't bother me personally
I am of age and here with knowledge and consent
Depending on how far it goes, it'll be interesting to see how many 49 year old have a sudden jump in age |

"I’m hopeful that people will have to officially confirm their identity.
Could be the making of this site again.
Don’t want to… fuck off then "
It is not an identity thing - it is an age thing. Making a payment via a credit card would suffice as you cannot have one of those unless you are over 18 and that doesn’t show you identity. |

Online safety act regulations come into force on 25th July to keep children safe from harmful content
That includes “highly effective age assurances” for adult only content - which fab would come under
I’m sure they have plans in place |

I get that.
What I said still stands though.
That’s what I hope happens |

There have been numerous posts on this, since it was first raised and half a dozen or so this week, including https://m.fabswingers.com/forum/feedback/1710521 from this section.
It's best to assume that Admin are working hard behind the scenes, to get it ready.
And that they will announce it, once we users need to prepare. Relax about it |

I saw comments in another thread that announcements will be made when admin are ready. That post was then deleted.
For my part I have raised or participated in discussion on this to raise its visibility, and if there were an opportunity, provide feedback on preferred options. It would be great to have a steer on what the concensus is from the fab user community as to what works best for them.
Other sites (not sex orientated) I'm aware of that have been caught up in this have alerted their user base of those changes months ago, and that's important because the rules extend beyond what some would consider a porn site - users might be unaware of impending changes.
I fear that leaving communication on this late will simply lead to more grumbles over a lack of consultation when the approach is announced, coupled with a missed opportunity to inform users that this is a top down government edict that fab simply have to comply with.
With less than a month to go it all feels like a fait accompli now so will just wait and see what transpires.

I am not sure why this was highlighted but the post was more asking people not to mail us for information as I don't have any to give and that I am sure when Admin are ready they will post about this.
I deleted it because people assume if we do post that I or other mods have all the answers and that it is an official announcement. Your post sort of proved why I felt the need to delete it as it is being discussed even after deletion.
Admin no doubt will post when they have information ( as other users have said ) people just need to be patient.
( again, please people don't mail us, we don't have any information ) |

Totally agree with this... makes it so easy for people to pretend to be opposite sex etc |

You don't have to prove identity just that you are over 18. |

You can prove you are over 18 by the fact your adult content blocker is off on your mobile. That is one of the ways they have tested it, you don't need to give any ID details it just proves you are of age. |

"I thought about this myself.
It'll probably only effect unverified useres though."
It will affect everyone. Verified or unverified.
But as admin have stated, the majority of users will already have done something that meets OFCOM's requirements. |

People having to photo verify with something more than just a picture of them holding up a piece of paper would be the dream. |

You don't need to confirm identity just that you are over 18. One of the ways is to prove your adult content block is off on your mobile you don't need to give ID to do that. |

The OSA is a well intentioned, but bloody awfully written piece of legislation.
The punitive measures have brought an end to several sex positive blogs that were safe spaces providing well informed materials and links for any curious about their sexuality as the individuals concerned can't run the risk of a £1m+ fine for failing to verify a users age.
The potential for exposure of users via data breaches on insecure sites could have serious consequences.
I hope that the owners of Fab have put very careful consideration into how they will verify users and keep that information safe. |

As an addition to this the first time I tried to post this response I got told it couldn't be posted because of the words it contained.
I have changed 2 words, neither of which I would say is problematic. But I don't have a clue which one was the problem, and there doesn't seem to be a definitive list of words/topics which are taboo.
How can you make a serious attempt to contribute to the forums when you don't know which words are allowed? |

Having to change two words in a post is not too much of a hardship. People still manage to write many more on a post without changing them. |
