It's two weeks.

No idea why its that specific time, but personally I wish it was extended to sending/receiving mail too. Or at least til a profile had been given time to get set up properly and the owners had a chance to browse the site without being jumped on by people eager for 'fresh meat'.

A settling in period would possibly make for people not getting overwhelmed and leaving soon after joining, plus would stop the 24/48 hrs weekend profiles that always seem to come and go every week. 🤷‍♂️

Yes I do agree about the emails. We were bombarded with messages when we first joined and it's overwhelming

You can set a filter to stop "new people" from sending messages, they have to be on the site 7 days. Maybe that should be a default on, rather than a default off.

As someone has said previously, would stop people being bombarded but recently set up profiles etc

O o O oo

There is a help page when you first join to show you were to limit mails and use filters. It helps keep any mails down until you have figured out the site

Back to the OP though, it was originally to stop people starting profiles to get round forum bans they had just received.
