It seems that deleting messages only deletes it from the sender’s box and not the recipients too - this makes no sense at all.
Why can’t we delete a message to prevent it being seen by the recipient if it was sent in error or was sent to someone who later became known as a fake or horrible person.
We can go in the past thread and remove images but we can’t delete entire messages or threads like we should able to.
Don’t get me started on being able to edit messages too. 🤭 |

What if a horrible person was sending nasty messages but was able to then delete them and in doing so prevent the recipient from reporting them. What if they were doing this over and over and getting away with it because they were able delete the proof?
Just suggesting the flip side of the suggestion 🤷

From a GDPR or legal perspective, once stated in print, you did it.
Your actions could be reviewed under various acts and because it is a recorded and published opinion, should it contain materially untrue statements, you could be liable for harassment, threatening behaviour or if shown to third parties, libel.
Put it like this.
If a guy who threatens people on a website and sends them untoward attachments can delete his and their content on a whim, then it becomes much more difficult to hold them accountable.
I started using the internet when messages were written on wax with styluses. I was a forum admin for a massive games forum (20k daily posters) a long time ago. I have seen things you would not wish on your worst enemies, because some people just want to watch the world burn.
Whilst I sympathise with your plight - the reality of the modern era is that if you want to write something that is going to be uploaded to the cloud, you better not be d*unk and vengeful about your boss/ex before you mash send.
We have all been there. This is why I have a bot that automatically logs into and deletes all my messages on Twitter every 15 minutes, so I can't post d*unk and myself lynched.
*hugs and support in your trying time though* |

Both are actually very good points I’d not considered. However, there ways to resolve this too… it is not uncommon for sites to “soft delete” messages, this means they are still keep on the database in full, but not show to either party. Instead, a message to say “this post has been delete” - further more, the message or thread can still be reported as the unique id of the message/thread is retained and sent as part of the reporting process (as it is currently) |
