This has almost certainly been suggested before, but we can’t find any current discussions about it in this forum. We’d like to be able to track winks that we’ve sent. We use them as a way to gauge interest and initiate conversations. It would be useful to know who we winked at and what happened as a result.
When sending a message, we can see if it’s been immediately deleted with no wink/message back. That’s a pretty good indicator of no-interest. But in the cases where a message is NOT deleted, we sometimes take that as a “deal with later” response from the recipient (we all get busy sometimes). We may follow-up a one more time a few months down the line with a wink/message.
If we could see the same sort of status with winks as with messages, it would help make a similar future contact less ambiguous.

I don't pay any attention to winks at all. They just sit there until I notice there's loads then I delete them.
If someone can't be bothered to send a message I can't be bothered to respond to a wink. |

Whether or not you, as an individual user, think Winks are a good thing or a waste of time is immaterial for this discussion.
Winks exist.
Some people use them.
Tracking them in the way described might make them more ionteresting/usable for those who use them and won't affect those who don't at all.
We're interested in if it's possible to do within the data structures / framework / design of the site; if it's worth doing from a cost benefit point of view; and, what are the possible upsides/downsides of tracking. |
