Should we scrap subject line in private messages?
It's not used in texts, whatsapp, kik etc.
90%+ on here are a variation on "hi"
It would make messaging a bit quicker especially on mobile
Any views?

I think the thing with dropping the subject is that your message system is more like internal email than an instant messaging system so it is part and parcel of the look of the messages in the inbox, also I have noticed a lot of profiles ask for a tag word in the subject box as evidence of reading their profile fully. |

It's helpful for us when we're sending joining information for our Social, makes the message stand out clearly as "official" communication, and not just chatter in the inbox. I suppose we would end up putting the subject as the first line instead (as long as that is still visible without clicking into the message).
That is, unless this is part of such a big overhaul, that people running events can send messages to their guestlist more easily too? |

I get creative with my subject lines but wouldn't have a problem if it was removed.
People could still insist others to put their special word on the first line of a message if they wanted proof that they have read the profile.

i'd like it to stay, for reasons already mentioned and it makes it easier for me to follow a conversation. plus when i get email notifications i can tell who has messaged me.
but i don't hardly use this site for messaging so you can ignore me if you like. |

"Still its used by lots off people wanting you to put a code word into it to show you read there profile ."
We use it for this and it's good to know if someone's read our profile, we would miss it. |

You Dont Need to Know, right now |
I'd rather it stayed. I use it as a kind of filter (messages with something more interesting than 'hi' get opened first). It's also useful between friends, to communicate that we've started a new topic, not a continuation of the last topic. |
