I'm not sure if it's possible to do, but I'd like to see members have to wait a certain amount of time before posting a review for the same club, a similar system to not being able to wink for 30 days since the last wink to the same person. I can name at least one club where the same 3-4 people comment on a club Friday AND Saturday, it gets a bit much when it's 7/8/9 weeks of it.
Thoughts people please. |

I agree, it just gets clogged with the same people reviewing the same club and leaving endless replies if someone leaves a comment they don't like!
One review per club every six months is more than enough!

Or maybe in profiles have links to all of their reviews so people can see if all of their reviews are for the same club lol. Or see if all reviews for other clubs other than their favourite are poor, whether they've been to the club or not, so you get an idea whether to value their opinion, or if it's sour grapes lol. |

we think we would go one step more
one review per member per club and if they wish to leave another review for the same club they have to delete there first one before doing so
that way you would get a broader perspective of what a club is really like |

Totally agree as one never gets a true perspective when the same people just keep hyping up the club - and how many times do you see folk gang up on a negative review ?
We went to a club a week ago and it was seriously the worst night ever - didn't bother leaving a review as it isn't worth the grief !!!

I agree with this, the review system would be improved greatly if all the people who constantly put fabulous week in week out were stopped. It takes me ages to find a decent review that's truthful and objective. |

We always leave a review when we visit a club, good or bad. We try to be 100% honest, we do not judge a club on wether we get to play or not but on cleanliness, warmth and atmosphere. sometimes it will be months between visits and sometimes just weeks.
We have commented on things such as broken locks and the management have emailed us to say thank you for letting them know and they have done something about it. One of the problems if you leave some kind of negative comment is that regulars all start clogging up the reviews defending a club which we think is wrong. Everyones tastes are different and some clubs we have seen great reviews for we have not liked but others that have mixed reviews have been great. Our advice is try it and make up your own mind. |

I go to various clubs.. and no two visits are the same... It gives people an idea of who goes.. and I have left not so good reviews for clubs too.
For instance I have been to chams and had a great time but the club itself is no good for me playwise.

I do like the club review facility on this site as it is actively used, unlike some other sites. I do agree though that it should perhaps be limited to a person can only leave one review per club per month at maximum as that would more than give a flavour of whats happening out there. The site should perhaps give nominated people from each club the right to reply to any review too. |

its funny because i try to always find a positive thing to say about somewhere an dhave now reviewed two clubs on here one which we love and one we hated and having just read my review of the one we hated it still sounds like we had a good night so might be a bit misleading i dont see the point in reviewing a club more than once tho as it is completely pointless its not a review then is it really more a running commentary |

Agree broadly with everything said here, we just did a new review for ADFABS, we have reviewed it twice before, but that was in 2004 and 2008, in fact I don't think fab was up and running in 2004, but at any rate we have reviewed the club three times.
If we went there again and something had changed or there was an incident that we felt needed addressing, then okay we might do a little review saying 'Hey you have to try the new Jacuzzi' or 'The New management are better / worse because...' and stick to the factual reasons for adding an additional review.
We strongly think that responses to negative reviews should not be allowed and should be taken off, as long as the negative review is not obusive or factually inaccurate. (Obviously if it was that would need addressing to)
A good example of this is the current spat going on in the reviews for The Attic in Derby.
If someone disagree's with their comments in the review then this should be discussed in the forum elsewhere and not on the review page. Also people who jump into defend a club, any club, in such way with such a vitrolic nature and rather agressive dialogue do not do the club any favours.
At the end of the day, not everyone wants the same thing from a club - The gentleman in question was at pains to point this out in his review.
A great many of the suggestions above make alot of sense. |

At the end of the day reviews are subjective. All a collection of reviews is going to do is maybe give you a gut feeling about a place. Best way to find out if it's for you is to visit it. Like it or not, either way it's a night out.
Although to be honest if the same people were posting lots of reviews about the same club we'd probably give it a swerve. Our gut feeling would be that they're trying too hard to big it up |

on the subject of club reviews, I have noticed that were are a number of reviews placed that have been written by members who actually work at the club the review is for...
Surely these are more adverts than an independent review !! |

Surely these are more adverts than an independent review !!" Yeah, that seems to happen quite a lot. Not sure that there's much that can be done, except reporting the reviews. I don't think it's unreasonable for a club rep to be able to reply, as long as they identify themselves. |

but the nights can be very different on a friday and saturday night so if they go on a saturday usually write a review for that then the next week go on a friday and absolutely hate it because its a completely different experience, they shouldnt be able to write a review for that night?... and clubs can vary week in week out.
im not the kind of person to go on writing review after review but if people want to its nice to see that there are regulars that go and still enjoy it or not. |

I think the above comment is completely correct. Clubs can vary in extreme to say the least from night to night and week to week.
There's nothing wrong with writing a review based on a different evening, if for example you writing it clearly to compare and contrast a previous experience. The issues here are two fold we think.
1) That the same people post a review in a very short space of time about the same club, making the same points and comments and adding nothing new to previous posts just to make the club seem more puopular and positive than perhaps is the reality.
2) That people use the review forum to attack someone's previously negative comments about their favourite club, which is then normally followed again by several contrasting reviews from people who are normally guilty of the first point (Posting repeat reviews).
Persumably it is not something that the site owners have time to monitor full time, but it does need addressing. |

Having read all the posts in here had to make a comment.
We have been to loads of clubs and find the best way to find out about a place is to go and experience it for yourselves ( in our opinion )
The problem here is that not enough reviews are about the clubs facilities, lay out and general ambiance. A club review should be exactly that not an opportunity to slate the numbers, attendee's or personal agenda's.
We also feel that arguements and general sniping at irrelevant comments are both detrimental and unneccessary. They only do damage and in no way give a clear representation of that venue or club.
Perhaps the reviews section should be moderated more and irrelevant comments or personal attacks should be removed instantly. As for club owners posting i think it is fair that they do so providing it is in response to someone being clearly mistaken on an issue or to take on board constructive criticism.
It is very important that new members get a clear and broad idea of what they might expect at a club as this is their first steps into the scene and i would feel mortified if we thought someone had chosen not to visit due to bad comments or lack of knowledge.
The reviews section needs to be cleared up and ensured that these issues dont keep rearing their ugly heads as it just creates negativity and after all aren't we all here for fun ? Things would be so much better if all the clubs got along etc as there are plenty of people to go round and its also down to personal preference where people choose to go not about loyalty.
Anyway thats our five pence worth lol and only our opinion
Have fun peeps x |
