Portsmouth, North Brittany, France

Easy enough.. arrive at the booths, check in and get the letter for your train departure. Hang around in the terminal drinking expensive coffee until your train is called.

Drive down to.... immigration/customs/security/customs/immigration (UK and French!) wait... wait some more...get out of car for a pee to see boarding start.

Drive on train, listen to endless security announcements, nap.. wake up 35 mins later, cross fingers that the bloody car starts, drive off the train (avoiding all the fish from the leaky roof) and onto the roads of France watching for the effing speed cameras!

Bon voyage!

Just get a good tomtom it has all the speed cameras on it and the new ones do averages and everything..

Gent is great by the way you'll love it, be careful though easy to get lost in the red light district.. lol

Dont worry about the leaky roof, if it gets too bad the oxygen masks will drop from the ceiling

Don’t walk between the parked cars and wipe the toilet seats before using them. If you don’t have Satnav, be careful you don’t take the wrong motorway, it’s easily done.

sounds like you're all set to go.. You forgot wet suit though,,

And don't forget to take your mum to Gents red light district you could probably pimp her out for a couple of quid (sorry euros) too..

The instuction about motorways is right though be careful to follow the right roads.. When leaving Gent its too easy to end up in Nazareth rather than the right road..

have fun

Just a quick add-too here.. don't use any type of system which actively 'spots' cameras in France.

If it just says "safety zone" you can get away with it, if its an actual radar detector and you get caught be prepared to be some €1500 lighter in pocket!

bournemouth

Its a brilliant way to cross the channel, we do it every year on the way to the Alps, far better than taking a slow ferry

You should be ok then, snow isn't that common over here.. we see it once every few years down here, but I am a lot further south than you're going..

"Ive got the big quilted coat packin 10ltrs of water plus some mars bars lol"

Water!?!? That's no good, it'll freeze - you need some alcohol, ask any Russian! Gluewine (sp) will warm you nicely at the Christmas fete (is that a fete worse than death??)

Fret ye not, apparently the snow has departed for the moment

You'll be ok on the 13th, I forecast a cold but sunny day ..lol

Careful with the mars bars, belgians do strange things with them..
