Can Friends Block You?

I'm asking this as occasionally I get an update saying a friend updated X minutes ago, but when I look there's noting there.

I've been through my friends list and can see the profile's of the ones there, so can only assume it's someone that was a friend and has now blocked me.

Is there any way to tell?

I think it's when they hide their profile, their update is no longer visible.

But yes, anyone can block anyone.

i get that too, with friends and hotlist. it'll say there are 3 hotlist updates but when i scroll down theres only 1 there, however i only have one person on my hotlist and chat to them regularly so i can't be blocked of profile hidden as i wouldn't see any x
