When private messaging with people on here your replies disappear but the other persons message stays

Could it be that once you've replied, you delete from your inbox but they dont? I'm not sure, I've just looked at my sent box, some have lines through the message title and I think that means they've been deleted once read and replied.

I'm sure someone will have the answer x

No not been deleted going back into old chats my messages are gone but thier messages are all still there from the start of the conversation could it be something to do with my settings etc
