But if you travelled at 99% the speed of light for 15 minutes through space and back, 1 and 1/2 hours would have passed for us on earth  |

Well, 'travel' to the future is an acknowledged fact. If you can travel close to light speed you experience 'time dilation'. That means time as you experience it and time to a stationary observer proceed at different 'rates'.
So if you travelled at 99.99% light speed for a year and returned to earth, several hundred years would have passed here. I.e you would have 'travelled' to the future.
There wouldn't be a 'copy' of yourself in that future and life would have carried on as you being absent.
That phenomenon is known and accepted, and only works in the forward direction. |
