They are there because they are far easier to ignore.

There is no rule on them, people use them how they want. We use them as a hey we might be interested.

For me they are a way of quickly seeing if a mutual initial attraction is there.

Grinds my gears when people get annoyed by them and say it lacks effort.

If i put effort into every initial message i sent id be here forever and have to quit my job lol.

A guy on here has to cast a wide net usually..like baiting the water.

If you want someone to send you a nice message with flowers and fluffy stuff join a poetry group.

Im just trying to get my leg over.

Bahahaa

Same here....

...except on such occasions I've often found that those messages get deleted without a reply so I sometimes wonder why I bothered

Its kind of obvious what wi ks are for and this is it. However I don't think the vast majority use them thos way at all.

I've had winks and winked myself with a returned wink.

Have sent messages after a mutual winking to get no reply. And I don't think I've had any send a first message after a mutual wink.

I don't look at my winks, but I do admit that i will use them as tool to see if someone may be interested. If they wink back, then i will message, though most of the time they will message. I'll only wink at a prifile that im genuinely interested in. I know others use them for different reasons. Just to let someone know they apprecuate someones pics etc... they may not wish to engage via PM though

We have found this too. I even queried one woman when she deleted our message. I said sorry but we thought you'd want us to make contact as you winked back. She put...you winked first..I was just being polite..??

I use frequently to check if there is any mutual attraction, there is no point putting effort in writing message if they are going to delete in 5 sec.

I personally dont use them because so many profiles state it will be an instant block etc. However if i get one from someone i am interested in i would message them.

They're a way of indicating you're interested. I rarely look at them. I get the effort thing, but from the other side, if I have the bandwidth to talk to ten people, why would I bother with someone who's clicked a button when I have ten promising messages in my inbox?
