Fabbers of a certain age might remember the heart-racing moment when you caught someone's eye as he made his way across the dance-floor to you; the rabbit-caught-in-headlights panic of wondering whether you should make a run for it or brave it out. What was your slow set favourite and is there any Fabbers you would ask to dance with the possibility of getting a sneaky shift. I was an awful looking teenager so it was rare I got asked out to dance so I would usually be found hiding in the toilets when I would hear the opening notes of Careless Whisper

Ok still have the fear of walking over to the girl with the pretty dress and smile and asking her to dance ....and then she says yes so I dont have to do the walk of shame

The power of love by Jennifer Rush comes on

Next problem how to dance without the girl knowing I have a raging erection in my jeans that I have absolutely no control over

And the more I worry about it...the harder it gets

Think of my dead granny ....that does it alright

I'm in a sweat just thinking of it

Love is all around is one of the songs I remember starting off the slow sets.Watching a guy approach snd wondering if it was you or one of your friends he was going to ask out to dance.

Had my first kiss to a slow set it was bloody awful as well teeth clashed and I remember him sticking his tongue halfway down my throat and thinking sweet mother of God if this is kissing the movies definitely make it look better than it is

Afterwards her friend came over and told me she was going to teach me how to kiss because Debbie

( still remember ) likes me but I couldnt kiss properly and then proceeded to ware the face off me to give me a lesson

Does anyone remember the licensing laws that required you to serve a meal? The lights would come on and they would dish out the chicken curry and rice absolutely muck. The fella you might have being shifting might not look as good then under the harsh lights.

Those were the days.. teenage discos were brilliant, especially if you went to a nearby town or village on the bus, going into some community centre, asking a girl out to dance, getting the shift, having a feel of her arse, raging erection in your jeans, ah yes the memories. From there it was onto niteclubs where they served alcohol and food, i met many a girlfriend because of the slow set, bring it back to fuck...

I went to see this great covers band last year in Galway called The Shift. All they play is classic slow sets with a modern twist. They were the best craic ever they even had a sectioned off shifting area. Would be the perfect band for a swingers social. Bring back all those old memories

Never went to a teenage disco. I was almost 20 before I set foot in a disco.

They served chicken and chips at each table during the night but never put the lights up.

Only time I remember doing the walk of shame was when the girl was upfront about not wanting to dance. All the others waited until we were on the dancefloor before asking for my friends names.

As a non drinking designated driver I had the pleasure of taking all my mates and their girlfriends home and in the days before seatbelts that could mean 3 couples shifting while I drove.

Slowsets meant nothing to me back then so can't say I miss them.

So romance is truly dead

God the excitement of dancing and wondering when he’d make a move, the electricity of a seriously dirty inappropriate sloppy handsy kiss on the dance floor. I’d love a night out!

Nerve wrecking going over to ask, hoping you had consumed just the right amount of Dutch courage to be confident but not so much you were slurring your words

Actually myself and a group of lads play music live on Facebook every Sunday ( The lads play whatever they want / requested) but I start off but it's always kinda a slow set as I kick things off from around 6. I'd be playing the likes of Reo Speedwagon, Celine dion, Aerosmith, bee gees etc

Its actually going pretty well with a couple of hundred live viewings every week and we have raised almost 30k for charitys since "Lockdown"

If anyone wants the name of the stream it give me a PM.. Its kinda nice to keep the classics alive

Back in the days in Kildare you were spoilt for choice you had Snaffles Fat Sals and Nginskys or you could hitch hike to Tullamore to go to The Harriers or The Bridge House. Or even exotic far flung places like Mullingar with The Final Fence or off to Galway to The Warwick.

Casa Del PURRRR!!

Am I the only one who remembers ‘Bubbles’ or ‘The Apartment’?

Or the slow set at the end of the night at Nova Park, trying to get a shift in before the Nova bus left for the city!

Then all pile in to Abrakebabra for a late scoff.... ah those were the days
