Recently on site. I've seen it being grossly misunderstood. as acting arrogant/ cocky, derisive. always at the top. quick to bare teeth etc.
it's not. that's being domineering. |

It's a thing in the animal kingdom. It means you're at the top of the social hierarchy and gets the choice to mate with the females. They are usually more aggressive and physically bigger than the others. Its a phenomenon in many species including some apes and chicken. |

It's a label. In modern times it has more negative connations than positive ones but I'm not sure it's any worse of a label than some who describes themselves as dominant though.
Kinda like burberry or Canada Goose. The label has been somewhat tarnished by the people who use rather than the label itself.

It's a human thing too. It's how the whole concept of tribal chiefs and royalty came about. The alpha male leads the group, clan, tribe or whatever. He has responsibilities and the group looks to him for safety, survival and leadership. The Fab alpha generally only associates the term with virility and being a tough, manly go getter. They maybe just see male lions and assume they can do that. |

I'm not an Alpha male, it really sounds like hard work for a laid back easy going dude. I'm much more of a Sigma male- The lone wolf, antithesis of the Alpha, defies placement in the social hierarchy and yet is successful with women. (Well occasionally anyway) |

It is not a contest of who get what the most, or who wins the most arguments or gets to say they are right moist of the time. It is how honest you are, how much integrity you have, and if you keep your promises.

Yikes that we're still paying any heed to alpha concepts in this day and age. The most confident fella in the room is being 100% himself and happy in his skin. I see a lot of insecure men and women every day trying to throw their weight around. Good luck to them burned bridges can't be traveled back over. |

A Leader, confident and not scared to stand out, is how I would describe an alpha.
Unfortantly it can come across as cocky, arrogant and over zealous but thats just us as humans, being jealous of confident people. There is a difference, a true alpha would also have empathy and have great social etiquette that help him/her fit in as well as stand out.
An Alpha doesn't have to be gender biased either, the term and the qualities can extend to anyone. |
