"The vans definitely profit
But some areas could do with being looked at for either raising or lowering "
The vans lose millions overall every year believe it or not.
There’s definitely some roads near me that could do with some adjusting up and down. |

"Do you always abide the speed limit? Drive over it? Do you feel some are too high? Some too low? Are speeding vans for safety or profit?"
I don't always abide by speed limits some are daft altogether like 50kmph limits are extremely difficult to stick too, lowest I can manage is 60 kmph, I always stick to the limit on motorways I don't know how people can drive over 120 on a road I think it's crazy fast, speed vans are for profit even though they are touted for safety but we should be thankful we don't have average speed cameras like Scotland, speeding is a thing of the past in Scotland now because of them and I think they are being trialed on some roads in Ireland too |

You're risking penalty points in every town you drive through so if you don't slow down to 50.
Very nearly got caught before in one town as I barely saw the van in amongst the other vehicles on the main Street.
Simplest thing is always to drive at 50 or below going through a town or village and then you don't have to worry about the vans |

I was driving up a main road near me and there was a speed van. There is normally a sign to notify you of a speed check. There was no sign, everyone was slamming on their brakes.
On my way into Cork speed limit 120, 3 or 4 cars on the motorway doing less than 80, these can cause accidents. Car moving onto motorway you are meant to move to right to let them.
A lot of poor drivers on the road. As for nct loads of cars at night even in dublin with only one light. They are meant to be a deterrent, but I think they could do better. |

Road safety is one of those things you just have to spend money on to have any kind of compliance |

"Definitely profit-making, but there absolutely needs to be fines, otherwise everyone woild take the piss even more than they already do"
I'm in partial agreement but and their's always a but their are other road users that cause queues traffic jam's and fustration,
The ones that pull out in front of you and do 20 mph ,and the worst of all the ones that crawl around the bendy roads and when they hit the straights they think they're Ayrton Senna and won't give an inch these people fustrat other road users and can be a bigger danger than speeding driving drivers |

I'm well aware I'm risking penalty points, it's just it's virtually impossible to drive at 50kmph in my car, I either have to rev the nuts out of it in 3rd gear or chug along in 4th and 5th is certainly out of the question, I just brake whenever I see a speed van, works for me I've no points |

I hope that never happens alright but if it does I'll berate the parents for being so irresponsible to allow their child roam freely on public roads |

Some interesting opinions in here. As for mine:
I think speed vans can be dangerous, because I tend to focus more on them than the road when I meet them.
I do think that speed limits are a mixed bag with "this road says I can do 80kmph but it's tighter than a clenched asshole" or "this 50kmph zone will go on long enough that you would rather walk"

Dundalk |
I went out of work to the shop one day which was less than ½ a mile away.
I drove passed a PSNI officer with a speedgun who was checking traffic going the opposite way.
On the way back I knew he was there so I was doing 25 in the 30 zone and he pulled me in and started into his spiel.
I asked him why he stopped me when I was well below the limit and he showed me the gun to prove I was doing 35.
I argued that I had driven passed him 5 minutes earlier to the garage and wouldn't be stupid enough to be speeding when I knew he was there and could see him from the garage forecourt.
He looked at his colleague across the road who shouted, "I told you it was the red car and not the blue one"
He apologised and said it was faulty equipment.
More like operator error.

If they actually used vans/hairdryers in areas that have a disproportionately higher incidents of RTA's that would be ok
When you get them hiding in a bush where you come from one speed zone into a lower one, for the sole purpose of creating revenue is the one that winds me up. |

Back into thread again.
Have you ever been driving on main roads and car in front is driving slow. You are within speed limit, you check your mirrors, indicate and go to over take when safe to do so and he/she starts to speed up and will not let you over take them. Crazy really |

I didn't until they put a tracker on my work van that alerts them everytime I exceed the limit, a couple of emails treating corrective action and I had to start playing ball and to be honest after a while driving at the speed limit or below became natural now and I do it in my car all the time too. What I have noticed since taming my ways is 90% of motorists speed, whether it's barely over or a lot and they get very frustrated behind you doing 50 in a 50 but their speed isn't being monitored! |
