This probably sounds a bit mental, but given the economy of this country it's not surprising.
I'm 29, essentially hitting 30 in a week, and since I left college I've been living at home with the parents.
Obviously as one gets older, it's harder living with them because you have different outlooks on life/etc. But at the end of the day I'm just a lodger in their place, as I get get told a lot by them
I do hand over money every week as a form of rent but differences in my life choices are essentially forcing me out of the house, mainly for my mental health and sanity
At the minute, all I have to my name is my car, and I've highly considered sleeping in in for nights, while using the gym for personal hygiene and workplace for lunches/dinners.
I just want to obviously build money up to move into my own place, but it's a matter of sanity at this stage.
I'm just wondering has anyone on here has done something like this before and how did they find it |

I did it before. Its very hard plus its embarassing when other people like coworkers find out. Especially coworkers that are assholes. Just always make sure that when you park somewhere for the night its somewhere that nobody will hopefully come across you and its as safe as you can possibly. Plus never sleep for the night with the car running no.matter how cold it is. It could lead to you going for a forever sleep |

Do you have any friends that you could stay with for a while, even couch surfing?
If I had space, I would offer you a bed. I am in fact homeless myself. The fear of where myself and my 2 kids will go after we need to be out of my sisters home by June.....
Hope you get sorted x |

I did it for a few months back in the day. Wasn't great tbh but wasn't the worst. Hardest part is finding somewhere remote enough to not be bothered but also not to remote that the odd scumbag will try to get in. I had a mini van so better than a car and a camping stove for food. Coolers for food and was able to use the gym at the leisure centre for showers. I rented a po box for mail as well.

I do have mates that would let me stay the odd night or two, but obviously I think everyone does want their own agency and privacy.
Plus my dad suffered a brain injury years back and it set the whole family dynamics between us and extended family into warfare. He's in good nick now, but he can be a ruthless c**t when he wants to be, and my mam, God love her. I do love her to bits, but we're constantly killing each other.
On a side note , I hope you and your family get sorted and best of luck |

Been homeless myself OP a couple of years ago and on the bones of my ass, (2 boxes of clothes and a tea cup was all I had)
thankfully I was able to stay/live in work and they were very supportive.
Stay were you are!
you'll be no better off or improve things sleeping in a car.
Can't give any big advice really to you but if you have a million things going on, deal with 1 thing at a time.

somewhere |
If you absolutely have to live in your car and you don't have any other options
I assume you're working if your paying rent to your folks
Buy a gym membership in somewhere cheap with a carpark
This gives you a base to get out of the car ....into toilets and showers in the morning and clean up
Possibly hang clothes in a locker overnight for work
Is parking at a job a possibility or asking anyone in work if they could help you stay in theirs and you pay rent to them |

Theres nothing i can see embarassing about it but if you have assholle coworkers that find out about it they look down on you and make fun of you. Maybe its just me. Ive a kind soul as i have been informed and hate judgemental peopleplus i hate people making fun of other peoples misfortunebut unfortunately some people trive on other peoples misery |

Op try and stick it out go out as much as you can doing things do a course or something at night if you cam or do volunteer work maybe don't go the car route its sad that in this day and age that sleeping in car seems to be getting very common.
Best of luck to anyone in difficulties at he moment it shouldn't be happening . |

Sorry to hear this
I know of fathers who have broken up with their kids mothers who do this.
This country is well and truly f*cked when a collage educated / grafter cant afford or get a place to live independently, its a disgrace 🙄

I appreciate the comments from everyone. To be honest, it's a last resort for me. I have slept in the car on separate occasions before because of infighting and stuff. And it's not ideal. I just to hear it from more rational people than myself. |

Many years ago, I used spend nights in my car, in the car park in Dun laoire. I slept ok, and would go for a very early morning walk along the seafront.
Then drive to work, again, very early, and use the showers, work canteen, and stored clothes in a locker.
I eventually bought derelict house, and lived on €20 a week.
It was a challenge, but my mind was clearer, I was happier, lost some weight, got a bit fitter from all the walking.
Looking back, I regained my sanity, I was in control of my world, had a job, and my car was my sanctuary.
If you have physical health, you're fit to do anything you set your mind to. |

Always dreamed of van life. Buying old van, converting it into a very comfortable home. Parking up on the coast. Using a electric bike for the small commutes. Would something like that be possible? |

100% agree, 20 years ago his local l council would have had a place for him. We really have gone backwards. |

Hey,
The Gym membership is great. But try to use it for more than the shower... I was doing it for 3 months and never lifted a sh*t /facepalm
Learn to eat 1/2 times per day. spend money only for lunch. And if you'd like to save money, your dinner should be the same than your breakfast. Fruits, sandwich, milkshakes...
Car sleeping S*CKS. But if you can fold the backseats and the trunk is consistent; buy a few warm and thick blankets. It's very cold on the nights.
But I won't never recommend sleeping in the car. Last comments are true. And I only did it to avoid paying an Hotel.
If I ever would need to find a place to live and sleep, I rather go to a village where you can find empty buildings without Yonkers or Crackheads. Buy a tent at Decathlon (invest good money for isolation) Lidl sells a portatil Hob for €50) which is great if you'd like to save some money. Otherwise, use a gas stove. |
