Snap buttons all the way. Regular buttons are never sewn on right and fall off after a lock of washes. And zips don't last either imo.

Waistbands are much lower than they used to be in the past, so yes, the zips are typically shorter than they used to be.
It makes it more difficult for those of us with enormous schlongs as we need to drop our jeans to our knees to get the lad uncoiled. That's fine in your own home but it's not ideal in public toilets.
