Is it really an uncommon thing as people have pointed out to me since the move, as well as vice versa for South going North? I've just moved from a kipp in Finglas and am now a South-cider in Kiliney. |

I always find the whole pretence of affluent areas in Dublin hilarious, to be honest. The pretentiousness of it all and then hate being called west brits!!

Keeping with the OPs question, it probably isn’t too common to move to a completely different area. It’s more common for people to try and stay near the areas you grow up in. It’s nothing to do with the areas or people or snobbery- it’s just what you grow up with and are used to. I’m a southsider and not one of my friends I grew up with have moved to the NS, but plenty have moved out of Dublin. |

We tended to stick to our own side of the city because public transport was so crap and if you met a girl in town you both had to run to different streets to get the last bus which was a pain in the arse
Funny enough any of my mates that married a woman from the northside usually met them on holidays outside Ireland in the first place and the guy moved Northside so the woman could stay near her family
It's still a thing as can be seen by the popularity of the Ross O Carroll Kelly books

In fairness I'd be the same if I was able to buy a house, I'd be buying around DCU where I grew up. I do have friend who made the switch like me, grew up down the road from me and now loves in Fun Laoghaire so at least there's a pair of us breaking ground  |
