70s, 80's, 90's MUSIC OR TODAY...
Jump to: Newest in thread
Being a middle aged fella I'm inclined to moan, groan and say that music and films "were better in my day than today"
Funny thing is though have heard some 20-somethings saying that 80's music was better. Many know all the words to "Wake me up before you go go" and other cheesy tunes (Me, was more a Duran, Duran man then )
So question is...
Was music better back in the day or today?
What's your favourite music era and why? |

Firstly I've thought of myself as middle aged for the first time...... thanks 🙄😅
I think we are kinda fooled into thinking they don't make music like they used to. They absolutely do. You just need to search a bit for it. As it's not "radio friendly". My go to was always rock from the 70s/80s. Acdc, zeppelin, lizzy etc But there are bands now that are just as good imo. Greta von Fleet, alterbridge, dirty honey among many others. |

I think every era of music has its greats and its turkeys. Don't think I could single out a favourite decade, although early 90s dance is hands down the best for that genre imo.
My least favourite decade is a bit easier - 60s music doesn't really do it for me except for a few standout exceptions |

There's a case to be made that more genres had their golden eras in the 90s over any other decade.
Hip Hop, Metal, Techno, Alternative, Rn'B to name a few.
The 90s were fantastic for music in general. |

Im 23 and my favourite bands are Led Zeppelin and the Beatles. Love older music and I like all genres but modern, mainstream pushed music leaves a lot to be desired I cant lie. Less about art n more about money. Indie scene is still fun tho |

New Kaleo album less than a month away and it's their 3rd album so that's new music I love.
Broad tastes mean more accepting to new genres/styles I guess.
I do find I listen to the heavier stuff less as I get older and appreciate the quieter stuff more.
As a lover of Metal & Grunge originally I would refuse to listen to anything that wasn't designed to be played at 11.
Over the years I learned to appreciate dance/goth/drum n bass/reggae/folk/trad/etc. which means I also love some of the newer stuff like Olivia Rodrigo & Gracie Abrams for example, as kids have introduced me to them. Rudimental and Faithless were my return gift.
Still, new Stereophonics album arrived today so music for bbq on patio tomorrow sorted by "oldies" and chomping at the bit for the Kaleo album in a few weeks!
Music just keeps giving us reasons to live
2 of the signs on my patio wall:
Where words fail, music speaks.
Music is what feelings sound like.

Music nowadays is shocking , synthetic and fake, droney male / female artists. Wailing non stop. No substance to any bands either..the narcissism on top of that is mouldy.
Way too much sampling and what you can do in a recording studio these days or at home with software. you’d make a gremlin sound like Pavarotti.

Everyone thinks the music they loved when they were young and openminded is the best.
There is still amazing music being produced, just just need to break out of the constraints of your preconceptions and allow it in. |
