Worst hotels in Ireland.
Jump to: Newest in thread
We just had a laught between us thinking back at the worst hotels we have stayed in.
Kilmore Quay - We called it the Hotel motel.
Two nights of horror.
That was just towards the end of Covid times.
What's the worst hotel you've stayed in, In Ireland. |

Stayed a few times in the Princess Grace, (Grace Kelly), suite in the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin. Very disappointing when no one called Grace or Kelly or even Princess was there to share the room.... |

"Did anyone complain about the hotels when checking out or did they just say they'd a lovely time and leave "
Long time ago I checked out of The Shamrock Lodge Athlone after 5 min in the room.
No rooms left in the "new part" and the old part was disgraceful.
The one in Kilmore Quay we just left an honest review. |

Eccles Hotel & Spa Glengarriff in very run down. When I stayed there a while ago the room was on the ground floor and you could smell the sewer through the window.
Kinsale Hotel & Spa is also shabby with cracked floor tiles in the lobby, damp on the wall near the window and the quality of the food is very poor. Both are best avoided. |

"Tracey’s Hotel in Waterford
Montnotte Hotel in Cork
The Ashley Hotel in Cork
"
Have stayed in 3 different Tracey's and all were very old and tired.
But they were cheap at the time so wasn't expecting 5 star. |

Oh my God the most awful experience just came rushing back.
I cant remember the name but it was on the left heading into Dublin on the N1, looking on the map it might be the Bonnington but it was 25 years ago
I stayed overnight to go to the airport and the night porter said I hadn't booked dispite having a fax, after nearly half an hour of arguing I was about to leave and I just happened to ask if there were any free rooms and the fucker replied yes, plenty !!
The room was freezing and absolutely filthy, the bed was smelly and there were things living in it. I spent the whole night half asleep in a chair well away from the bed.
Fuck that was the worst night of my life.

Cois Farraige in Bray, herself booked it one night in our early days when she was desperate for an uninterrupted shag. Creepy witch on reception, horrible room, with English rugby heads running amok in the corridors!
We laugh about it every time we go to Bray for a walk. It's a shiny new block of apartments now.
It WAS still worth the shag of course. |

"You get what you pay for. 5 star minimum or else your at nothing"
Some five star hotels are not worth the price and not a good experience
K club for example .....staff are terrible
Rooms are horrible

Stayed in the lodge at Ashford on new years eve before, hands down the experience I've had in a hotel. The rooms were perfect but that was about it. Booked in for dinner and was left waiting 2 hours for my starter (which was soup), never brought our drinks and our mains were cold. Staff weren't bothered at all, everyone was complaining, one couple were given the wrong order and instead of bringing the correct food they cleared the table and asked if they wanted any desert. I've never seen so many people complaining about staff especially in a hotel that's held in such high regard |

This is evident in most hotels ,the staff are just sauntering around uninterested, and bar staff don't seem to know how to pull a proper pint |

I think it's o Keefes. Above the nightclub. Awful place. Very run down and there's an old age stench. Bed rooms right above the nightclub. No point in going to bed till after 2am. Might be ok weeknights if on a budget. |

I've apologised for that a few times and you promised not to bring it up again S |

Stayed in a hotel in Belfast last year. Can't remember the name of it but it was near the university.
The hotel itself wasn't bad, but it was on possibly the loudest street at night I've ever stayed on.
I mean non stop noise. From sirens to people shouting.
Got about 2 hours of broken sleep. |

Who remembers the sunset ridge hotel? It was on the outskirts of Cork city? It was an infested shit hole. I remember we had to book in and you could see the flies on the mattress and green velvet curtains.. lol omg. I think it eventually closed down.. |

Hearns hotel is the name and O Keeffes used to be the nightclub. People booked in there and had no bed in the room. Maybe they were the lucky ones 😂 |

I won a two night stay in a hotel in Sligo years ago. The Inisfree Hotel, I think? Arrived at reception to be greeted by an old man in a string vest who kept shouting back into the room behind the reception area that "I'll be back in a minute ffs"
It was the filthiest place I've ever seen. We decided we'd take a look at the room at least in the hope that maybe we could stay until morning. The person with me left a book down on the bedside locker and when she went to lift it, it was almost stuck to it.
Searched around but there wasn't a room to be had in Sligo that night so back out and into the car and back to Dublin we went.
As I was leaving the keys on the desk the cross between Frank Gallagher and Rab C Nesbitt appear again and said "I hope you'll say something good about us on booking.com anyway" 😱😱😱
It's gone now as it was demolished a year later. |

"Tracey’s Hotel in Waterford
Montnotte Hotel in Cork
The Ashley Hotel in Cork
The Montnotte - why so?
We love that hotel. "
Had one of the worst stats ever! The staff were beyond horrendous! We got a ok room but stuck right at the back of the hotel! We weren’t allowed book the tables at the window it was all reserved for non residents?
It was just awful! Was nearly going to book elsewhere! The hotel itself was grand but just the whole experience the worst I’ve had anywhere |

Stayed in a hotel in Enniscorthy many years ago early '90s, hotel still there but different owners,
The old owner mood depended on her hangover and a couple I knew who were engaged at the time were actually kicked out of room as they were not married |

Stayed in a hotel in waterford back in the late 80'
The room was triangle shaped ...just a sink on the wall and a shared bathroom ....all normal for the era
However the headboard of the bed was the actual full width of the room so you got into the bed from the end of the bed and also had to make sure you didn't bang your toes off the bricks holding up that end of the bed |

I stayed in a "hotel" overlooking Lough Arrow in Roscommon nearly 35 years ago. The bottom of the bedroom door had either rotted away or had been knawed by rats. It had been patched with a sheet of tin that was cut to size and nailed onto it. It featured on that TV show done by the Brennan brothers a good few years ago and had ended up as a downmarket hostel. It even looked grim when they were done with it. |
