My girlfriend and I will be having a long weekend in Cork next month. We will be staying near the city centre. We have looked at the tourist pages, but we would be grateful for some recommendations by locals for good restaurants and live music bars near the centre.
Thanks in advance. |

If you are looking for a great pint of guinness. You won't get better than Counahans off oliver plunket street.
McCurtain street is a fantastic area now and you don't get much of the really young crowd there so it's great for a night out great restaurants and bars. |

I went to UCC, and lived in Wandesford Quay (many many years ago). There used to be a tiny pub on the bridge opposite my apartment- did the best pints ever and we used to go there before Reardons. I often wonder if it’s still there? |

Thanks, we are looking forward to it. We are going on her birthday weekend, and Cork is her father's home town, but she has never been before. |

Just giving a huge thanks for the advice given. Cork was the most fun you could have without taking your clothes off. Great cafe culture, great bars, great food, great people, and multicultural and diverse.
I d*unk lots of Murphy's, Beamish and Redemption. Why does anyone drink Guiness?
During the trip we had evening meals at Orso Mediterranean restaurant in Pembroke St, and also Quinlans Seafood Bar in Princes St. We had an Irish Breakfast in The Oliver Plunkett watching the Lions. We visited the English Market, and we did the cruise of the River Lee. We visited the house where my girlfriend's father was born.
Had beers in Cantys Bar, Crane Lane Theatre, and beers and listened to traditional music in Sin E. We also had brunch at a couple of coffee houses.
Blinding time.
