Play party deposit
Jump to: Newest in thread
So I’m thinking of organising a little play party at my place . I’ve organised a couple before but stopped doing them due to the frustration of ppl cancelling last minute . I was thinking to look for a refundable deposit this time around in an attempt to make spaces secure .
I’ve put a lot of time and effort in in the past , getting nibbles and drinks in and having ppl cancel last minute or changing their mind just puts a damper on things.
Do ye thinks it’s reasonable to ask for say a 50€ refundable deposit ? If they cancel , they lose their deposit… what’s peoples thoughts on this ? |

We would have no problem paying for a party and wouldn’t even want it to be refunded but it’s the problem of having to send the money and the privacy aspect. That would put us off. Hope this helps |

I only invite people I’ve already met so there’s some kind of rapport there and some trust which makes that kinda process easier x |

I presume you mean a “non-refundable deposit”. I would have thought that would be standard anyhow? I had tickets for Vanilla and I couldn’t make it- I never even thought to ask for the money back. |

It would only be non-refundable if they don’t show up . If they show up they’d get it back . I can understand big events like vanilla doing it , it expect it , but I’m only having maybe 10 -12 ppl in my home . Nothing big x |

But would you still not charge them something for the nibbles and cleaning up etc? I would expect a donation to be made TBH. I’ve had some people around and one woman had fake tan- destroyed my white sofa!! |

Think it's reasonable to pay a deposit as it shows who would be serious enough about going. Think once it's made clear to people that it's non refundable then everyone is on the same page.
Definitely a good thing to have met people before hand so you can invite or not invite at your disgression. |

You should charge a certain amount that covers the food and drinks ice etc..... and if the couple or individual shows up refund them half that amount you certainly shouldn't be out of pocket if god for bid something happens your property and it's not easy to organise anything and most are will and to pay for someone else to do the donkey work so ya it's a good idea |

You can definitely charge for a deposit as it's a great way of ing out who is serious and who isn't. Are you incurring costs for putting on the party? If you are the figure it all out and spread the cost over the number of attendees, and ask for that amount up front. It's reasonable that anyone who is attending pays their portion of the cost involved. |

If your inviting 10+ people to your place there's gonna be some investment of your time and money and I don't think anyone you'd like to have around would mind making a contribution.
If it was me I would go non refundable and cover the costs of the laundry, food, a few mixers and a buffer for breakage. You'll have admin, prep and cleanup time too and there's no reason you shouldn't be rewarded for that.

Non refundable deposit is the way to go with balance to be paid a week before the party
That way you have some time to organise extra people to attend if you're let down
There's always people that dont make it
Some because life sometimes just gets in the way and they genuinely can't make it
Others because they're acting the bollox |

If you host any parties for free in future just let me know 😁
It's out of the equation! Nonrefundable deposit for those ones who's canceling. First of all your time is valuable on top of the expenses.
Best of luck with your future parties! |

Any parties and socials we attend we have always had to pay a fee by revolt before attending....listen everybody an their aunty are having socials an making a nice little earning out of it!! I would definitely charge something, I think €50 is acceptable. You will always have someone say it's too much but from what I've experienced €50 for a play party is very very good. |

Tbh , anyone that hosts a party , should not be out of pocket, to me it's an insult to the person that has gone out in lots of ways to host if the people that have been invited dont turn up or turn up with their hands hanging the same length to get everything free, sorry, totally wrong.
Try organising or hosting a party , for whatever , then you'll see the work that's involved & maybe the person is thinking all the time " did l forget something or leave something out "..
Best wishes OP in your endeavour, hope everything works out for you . |

Definitely deposit is good idea.Any organised party I went to always required none refundable deposit. This is best way to cover the time and effort done by organisers.
The outstanding balance was paid 2 days b4 event . |

Know a couple who use yo run regular parties . Always charged to cover expenses pay on the night. But they had to go pay in advance. To many messers not showing up.
If they make a small profit it goes to a local charity. |

Its your party you are the one who decides. But yes charge a non refundable deposit or fee simple as that. We host small events, but never charged a cent, that was drink and food! But that's our choice! But if you intend to do it regularly then set it up no different to a business, seperate emails, telegram accounts, method for payment etc. Then have your pool of money and budget. If you make something this time you may need it next time! Then you have your own play budget for a trip to PDI
Best of luck with it! Your too far for us |
