Why do most of these people turn out to be total numbnuts? One such status right now is laughably ironic.

If English is not someone's first language I would excuse bad grammar.

Grammar or punctuation snobs are grand. There's an endearing and intriguing quality to anyone with that kind of nerdy attention to detail, and it opens up a fair bit of written humour that would otherwise be lost on the recipient.

Languages are beautiful and can be terribly fun to subvert. But the subversion only works if there are rules in the first place.

I do like good grammar and punctuation but it's not a deal breaker. It would be if I can't understand a message due to a combination of bad grammar, spelling and punctuation. I'll do by best guess work and reply but if the conversation going forward is just guessing, well I may as well talk to a wall 🤷‍♀️

I’m a school dropout. Was unless at school. Couldn’t spell, could read but not out loud. Teachers back in them days put children like me to the back of the classroom out of the way. Took a grammar class in my late 20’s and here i am. I still get confused with some words like “there and their” “sent and send” and at time I get b+d mixed up. Few other words I get confused with also.

Grammosexual is the term for people who are turned on by spelling and grammar.

It doesn't really bother me when someone else does it, but I just can't let it go when I do it.

The amount of deleted and retyped messages I've done over the years on here because there's not an 'edit comment' option

A nice rock

I'd do some nasty nasty things for an edit button.

My grammar isn't great and it gets worse when I don't concentrate on it.

I don't mind if someone else has poor grammar as long as they make an effort to communicate what they are saying clearly.

the other really annoying thing is lack of punctuation and long rambling sentences that merge into one long paragraph with no particular order such as beginning middle and end it is so hard to follow and of course the classics your you're their there they're

I think of one person who regularly posted on here who's first language was not english. Her grammar, spelling and sentence structure would put most on here to shame.

Punctuation and correct grammar is a large part of my job, but on here I really don’t see the point in obsessing over it. I certainly don’t think I would judge or call someone out over it! Use your text speak or shorthand, what harm

Presumably alot of people use fab on their phones which may result in text speak, that aside it's more informal here despite most being strangers to each other.

As someone who's dyslexic its very difficult to write complete paragraphs never mind get it gramatically correct since English was a nightmare in school.

I really dont care the way threads are written as long as its not text speak

I just spotted a right clanger on an event ad on here.....

Lots of words in english can be pronounced similarly but have very different spellings and different meanings.

Let me know, preferably by dm, if anyone else spots it.....we dont want to cause unnecessary embarrassment.

Now it is highly unlikely, but still a remote possibility, that what was meant is that there will be canopies overhead at the arrival point under which people can shelter while having on arrival nibbles in the event it being an inclement evening.....
