Can someone explain why builders/designers put poxy pull handles on push only doors?

In a rush, got to the door, handle, brain goes great, pull. Pulled my entire face and body into the door nose first.

Why? Like just why?

Handles allow you to hold the door in case of high winds or gusts. Also for some people it’s easier to grab a handle than to push with an open palm. And if you were trying to open the door in wet conditions your hand could slip off resulting in you face planting into the door so a handle solves this too

Dublin west

Handle helps identify the lead edge of the door for those that may be partially sighted or have issues with their vision.

On glass doors it forms a surface to be pushed instead of having to make contact with the glass panel itself.

As others have said it gives an extra level of control in windy or gusty conditions.

It helps control the door for those that need extra assistance to get through the doors or for people that maybe are also dealing with young children at the same time.

Like most things there is probably more planning gone into it than you might think, nevermind all the regulations you have to comply with if it's a building used by members of the public.

Typically doors on escape routes open in the direction of escape so it's easier to work out of it's going to push away from you or pull towards you. Look out for the green running symbol over the door .

And if you can see the hinges the door is usually going to open towards you.

Technology is great when it works.

They're out to get you mate. What's the betting, the next time you go back to that place, they'll have the doors swapped around. That'll really need with your head.

The engineering rationale is solid...
