Drive in and out of city centre most days...it's still not as bad as Galway!
The most dangerous part of driving in Dublin right now is the Toyota Prius taxi brigade, there is no way half of them have licenses! |

There's been a concerted effort to make driving through the city all but impossible, to prioritize pedestrians, cyclists and public transport, that's not a bad thing in itself. The problem however is that drawing a bus map that looks like a metro map doesn't make an effective public transport network. Capacity does not meet demand for large parts of the day.
On the Bus Connects routes already rolled out, busses are often full before they reach their 'spines' which means from there onwards, at each bus stop, the bus only stops when someone is getting off and the driver will wait and count how many people get off before deciding if they're going to open the front door and let anybody on, adding time at every stop, slowing journey times down.
The other impact of the changes in the city center is to squeeze more traffic onto the already over capacity M50. |

I am self-employed and try to avoid driving too much. I work Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and Fridays if I have to. I try to be home by 2/2.30 pm so I am off the roads before the school runs. I also don't leave the house much before 9:30. More recently, I have stopped providing my services on the North side unless it is in proximity to the M50. These days, the M50 is bad every day. The main problem with the congestion in town is the loss of road space and the traffic lights on green for a few seconds, then red for two minutes. There are currently 400,000 drivers on learner permits and many of them don't seem to know how wide their cars are, hesitating at gaps you could drive a bus through. |

The M50 is badly designed for what its meant to be
To make it work a motorway needs to be built from Portlaoise to Dundalk to get the traffic off the M50
We dont seem to use joined up thinking about transport or most things in this country

A huge proportion of M50 traffic is departing or arriving (often both) somewhere close to the M50, a Dundalk to Portlaois can't fix that. A mass transit network is the only way to fix it. |

The problem is that its not a Dublin ring road, its a main travel artuary.
Coming from north, south or west, you have to use the M50 even if you have no business in Dublin. From Galway, Limerick, Cork to Belfast, and vice versa, all have to use the M50.
Dublin Airport has over 100,000 passengers per day, and the large majority are not going to Dublin.

Recently gone very bad last couple months due to a lot of business getting rid of working from home again so ppl are now having to commute to work again . Also taking away lanes of traffic to put in massive cycle lanes is madness when there is no proper rail network for ppl to use as alternative . |

It's only getting worse. It doesn't matter what directing you're coming from, it's just a river of cars going nowhere fast. Dublin is particularly bad but you'd expect that but galway is brutal as well, limerick has been disgraceful for a long long time, Cork.... well in Cork you just seem to around in circles. The whole country is a wash with traffic.
It's like the WFH thing is gone and everyone is back to the office again. |

Have never found Limerick too bad. If they hadn't got the ring road and tunnel, the city would probably cease to function right now. But still little to no public transport.
Galway is nearly ceasing to function now. Needs a complete public transport and infrastructure overhaul. If they even just started with schools and universities it would make a huge difference. Traffic actually gets better during summer holidays! |

The ring road to the tunnel was a massive improvement for limerick but long before that was open limerick city traffic was hell trying to get out especially on a Friday evening. I still have nightmares from it. My therapist says I should just let it go and move on |
