Where do I start?
We have grown as a country in my lifetime. I grew up in the 80’s where it was shocking depressing. We have been made tough through battle and strong through sacrifice.
Now we are a country that has found itself in the centre of the world that makes the world smaller by dreaming big. We connect the world. We live on an island that does not invade other countries with anything other than ideas, talent and good food and drink. We make absolutely no apologies for our success and no excuses for our failures (and yes there are many)
We push forward despite the odds been stacked against us and have grown that we are on the world stage calling out what’s wrong with the world. We invade countries with our thoughts, and ideas. Nothing else.
The Guinness is cracking. The women are as sexy as fuck.
I love Paddy’s Day because we are unique and I’m so proud to be Irish.
Rant over. Free Gaza.

Welcoming all the foreigners into our lovely country and give them accommodation and every handout they need at us the taxpayers expense whilst the older people of this country find it difficult to make ends meet and go cold. What a great country.. |

Big change from the time you were telling everyone about your charity in driving trucks full of toys and medicine to Ukraine to those that had nothing |

Its the right list if she thinks he is the best of us.

"
Listing rapists as the best of us should be called out.
Its not like disagreeing about barrys/lyons
Barry's obviously |

"Some of the scenery in this country is breathtaking "
I was literally about to say that we live in an absolutely stunning country, but didn't think that fit with the forum title.
So.. we live in an absolutely stunning country! |

There’s so much to love about Ireland but having been integrated into different European cultures throughout my life , I can say the one thing that stands out for me about Ireland is the people. Nowhere else can you really talk, have deep and meaningful conversations at the same time as having a smoke/smirt out the front of the pub. Or where you can chat about the fragility of life and the joys of a cup of tea with a stranger at the bus stop, waiting for a perpetually delayed bus. The acknowledgment of this special island we live in when something good or bad happens. As others have said, our reputation abroad precedes us all. Our ‘national character’ is so quintessentially us but impossible for any other nation to define as anything else except simply Irish. And it’s part of everything mentioned here-the gaa, our ancestors, politics, culture, art, music etc
It’s all an embodiment of the complexity of us. It doesn’t matter where you called home before you lived here, or even if you’re here fleeing persecution or looking for a better life, or just fell in love with one of us, as long as you love Ireland in all its glorious disaster on the brink of greatness, you’re one of us.
(and before anyone starts banging on about migrants, you can fuck off- IMHO anyone who loves the island, regardless of their ethnicity or background, can call themselves Irish. You don’t get to be Irish and racist so jog on) |

"Conor McGregor

Maybe McGregor wasn't the best choice, but I was only referring to his achievements as an athlete. I’m not Irish, I’m an immigrant, so I wasn't aware of that side of him. |

For any Irish people that immigrated in their youth (including myself ) who were welcomed wherever they went was because of our good nature, love of our country and the ability to embrace cultures of other lands . Today I’m proud to be Irish and love this beautiful country. |

"Conor McGregor
The Cliffs of Moher
A pint of Guinness"
Listing a violent rapist, a “man” known for inciting hate speech, his loud and proud attitude of Ireland for the Irish & shouting from the roof tops about keeping immigrants out of Ireland, and for encouraging violence and inciting riots—as the best of Ireland has more than turned my stomach! |

The Magdalene laundry's are there no more thank God! Let's take some time to think about those who didn't get to see their children who were taken away from them at the these laundry's! Shame on the nuns and priest who played a part in it. |

"Some of the scenery in this country is breathtaking "
Totally agree, so many places I've seen in my lifetime, the breathtaking views, some of the most amazing lands, lovely green grass, the smell of cut grass alone is out of this world!!
There's also the brilliant Irish singers and musicians from the Dubliners, the Pogues, The Coors, The Clancy Brothers and many others |

You know that moment
You're abroad somewhere....anywhere in the world...minding your own business ....then you hear something
A few notes....
An Irish band playing a song
And your heart soars to hear it
And you're proud as fuck to be Irish
That |
