How bad are you at remembering people's profile names when meeting them in real life

Was at a social the weekend but head on me like a sieve

People say hello Bog ....then I usually have a problem especially if they're half of a couple

You only see their face but on their profiles you see everything else

My brain gets fried trying to remember who's who except for people I see more often than just socials

Whats your memory like

Terrible

I generally hotlist everyone at the event or as many as I can and then spend the next few days trying to figure out which of them we met. Also have been known to approach people thinking they were one person/profile when they weren't. I often recognise the face and no idea where from. So I start with that and hope people aren't offended 🙈

Handy to ask someone too. Often there some genius nearby that can remember

Im brutal, I can barely remember someone I spoke to 10mins before sometime. Literally remember people by nicknames and good luck remembering their real ones

In the last few years I've just become horrendous with names, make notes on my phone contacts of their wives or husbands names etc so I can get a quick glance if I see them approaching, its terrible! Or if I meet someone within a few minutes of them telling me their name I'm apologising and asking what it is again, shocking stuff

Depends. If they have their boobs out there's a good chance I'll recognise them.

So if you meet me and I have a confused look the best thing is to probably just flash me.

Everyone should have a name tag just first name makes it a lot easier.

I meet chap at parkrun last Saturday kept calling him Ger it was only when I got home I realised his name was Dave.

I call my kids my cats names and vice versa, but they're all used to it by now.

And I bring sheep with me to socials so that helps people recognise me 🐑

Not in person but was getting on really well messaging with someone a couple of months ago.

Bit of a gap in messaging then of course I goes and twice in a row called her by a totally different name. She didn't reply. I'm still too mortified to go back and say anything because a day or two after I remembered her actual name.

I feel much better after reading this thread , in general I'm ok at remembering names but there's a few people I'd meet regularly and never can remember their first name and it happened as recently as today with two of them

I usually don't have any problem remembering profile names but even with all the people I've met in 10 years I can count on one hand the ones where I know their actual name.

I've been at socials and had conversations with people where they were rhyming off names of people they met or who were at previous events and I honestly hadn't a clue who they are talking about.

Most times I let them carry on but sometimes I've had to stop them and tell them I'm completely lost and they've usually been surprised and asked how can you not know them when you've been here years and they are always on the forums?

I've only ever known them by their profile names which is why I usually don't have a problem remembering them.

I used to be very good at this, which I think was driven by social anxiety. Now I no longer give a shit and it's in one ear and out the other unless I am genuinely interested in someone

I'm awful at remembering names too, like within 10 seconds their name is gone. I just ask people again or deliberately just start spouting out random names until they correct me. Usually I get it after I've been told about 3 times, otherwise it's just embarrassing and I avoid people
