Good morning folks, having seen another thread about prostate massage/orgasms, I felt I needed to highlight this...sorry to start the day with a thread about cancer but I really think we all (in general) need to be more aware of the importance of regular blood tests.
I've recently lost a childhood friend to prostate cancer and having had it myself I've become extremely vocal in telling my family and friends to get regular bloods done. Especially if you're close to 50. My friend was only 57 when he passed but by the time they discovered he had cancer it had spread. Unfortunately up to 4000 of us are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. It's the most common and slowest growing cancer in men so if caught early the prognosis is usually good.
Book your blood test and ask for PSA to be included. Give yourself a chance. And ladies,if your man is in this age group please insist he gets his bloods done. We're so bad at talking about this and being proactive. A nudge from the Mrs might be required. I'm one of the lucky ones...I'm cancer free now and get to see my kids grow up. Every day is a blessing! Apologies for the deep and gloomy post but if it means even one of you gets checked,it'll be worth it! Happy Monday  |

Awareness is so important and unfortunately men are notoriously bad at keeping on top of things. Not all men but the vast majority!! |

A lot of women too and mostly because they don't like a bit of pain that lasts perhaps five minutes.
A really stupid reason given it could save your life!! |

It literally could save your life. The amount of lads I've spoken to that have said they'd rather not know is staggering! Makes absolutely no sense to me!! |

My dad wasn't feeling the best last year. They thought it was his prostate (he's 76 so normal enough to get it checked) didn't find anything but did bloods to be sure. Found a tumour on his lower intestines. Thankfully it was caught early and now between the surgery and chemo he's on the mend.
If you feel anyway wrong go see a doctor |

Yes, well said OP. I completely agree. As us boys get older it's very important to have regular tests and understand what PSA is, what the numbers mean and where you should be for your age. Its only an indicator but an indicator nonetheless.
Big family history with the men in my family so it's a priority.

I'm glad he's ok... catching it early is key! Hopefully he's back to normal soon. |

An indicator is all it is but if something shows up then further tests are needed. It's just to give yourself the best chance possible. Especially when you're near the 50 mark. They reckon if there's a family history you should have the PSA checked from 45 on...if nothing shows up then at least you know! Surely that's better than the alternative?? |
