I work in secondary school. And I find each year the new students are getting worse .

thathe is their respect for property. Teachers and rules.and as for manners.they are non existant.

some say it's parents that are to blame .but myself ....and I'm not .racist.and definitely not pro catholic. But students coming from educate together schools are so abusive and no manners at all compared to those from catholic ones......

My town

I actually think parents are to blame teaching manners. I've 3 children I've always drummed in there heads use you manners. Please thank you etc. Teaching kids manners is down to parenting not from teachers. Manners cost nothing and says a lot of the person. .

According to the thread yesterday manners prices are increasing..

Seems that must be the excuse for parents not teaching them.

There's a lot to be said for the wooden spoon

You're obviously not a teacher in this school you mention. A janitor or cleaner maybe? Your grammar is bad. Way too bad to be a teacher.

Christ above.. Why do people feel the need to type and then post silly comments like this!!! Comment about the topic of conversation not about bloody grammar! Suggesting a job title such as janitor or cleaner is insinuating a lack of education which is down right insulting!!

Are you saying that people that work as cleaners/janitors are less educated? I think that's a bit of an unfair assumption. I had an Engineering teacher in Secondary school who was brutal at spelling. I was out for dinner recently and a teacher friend had to write down a calculation, while I did it it my head. Don't assume people are uneducated due to their jobs, there's plenty of reasons also for bad grammar. At least it wasn't text speak

Oops did I hit a nerve? You noticed that kids from inclusive Educate Together schools have no respect, while catholic schoolchildren are really respectful and good?

So what you're really saying is that you dislike children who were born to foreign nationals, or children who are from different cultures than your own.

I'm betting your role in this school is one which requires very little qualifications and very little brain power

As others said it's the parents to blame. So many parents try to be friends to their kids rather than parents and all the respect and manners go out the window or they've no manners and respect themselves or out of sheer laziness as in it's easier to give in to the child than teaching them some respect. Consumerism has loads to do with it too

Do good Catholic secondary schools still exist? Bar confirmation and communion classes I don't see a big push on religion in schools like it was years ago. I don't really see the debate here OP

That's it mrs crazy. It starts at home. My kids would never misbehave in school because I've thought them that that's not the right to do. I think if a teacher told me they were being bold I wouldn't believe them. They hate the thought of getting into trouble in school. My kids are both quiet in school and have never ever been in trouble.

Outside of parents, schools are one of the key agents of socialisation in a child's life so some level of responsibility must be accepted of that is the case. Each school despite its moral and ethical underpinning is subject to the culture being fostered by its principal and staff.

Parents have the ultimate responsibility to recognise this and prompt change or discussion on the matter.

Educate together is all inclusive that means they could well be Irish catholic students as well as any other colour, creed or nationality however ur putting down of others shows the little brain power ur using today"

Maybe it's because the fear of God hasn't been put into them like it is incatholic schools?

It wasn't an insult by the OP, it was a simple observation from their experience in the education sector. You may not agree with it but it is still his opinion from what he has seen

Maybe it's something educate together schools need to look at if the trend is that students moving on from these schools into secondary level education are showing lack of respect that is less that that expected of children their age at the same time parents of all children are the main movers in instilling respect in their children there's some catholic educated kids could do with a good dose of manners and respect

You also have to remember that a lot of teachers a just cunts too. There are those that once they begin teaching they just go through the motions. This thing of teaching just to pass the leaving cert is just teaching by numbers there's very little abstact thinking or asking why. Its just memorize this and you'll pass. So it can get boring for some children and boredom can lead to acting up

Yeah, Educate Together should really look into how they do business based on one person's view of their pupils.

Well said!!

It actually shows a lack of education (and respect for others), trying to insult another person's grammar usage...

People should be able to post regardless of their grammar or spelling without being attacked!!

Atheist are moral and polite and respectful at least the ones I know are. Religion has no bearing in my wee opinion.

It would be easy to say blame the parents but I think there are far too many factors to take into consideration why some children do better and behave better than others.

Abuse, bullying, bad parenting and learning difficulties as well as other factors outside of school are only just a few.
