The thorn in the Americans side has passed. Many people will be happy.

A revolution is a struggle to the death between the future and the past. Fidel Castro

An Evil man has died, someone that destroyed people's future in the name of a fake revolution.

YES I'm happy.

One authoritarian madman leaving the world of the living, it's a step in the right direction for humankind.

The question is will his brother try told blend old values with real progress without selling half the country to foreign interests. We have visited the country and seen both sides if a huge economic divide. In most respects it is or was up until a couple of years ago no better than any middle of the road African state. The myth of an equal health care system was wildly misunderstood and exaggerated. It was in some respects top class but only if the elite. He was a great man with great ideas but his ideas failed any years ago

I thought the country was a great example of how a country could be economically self sufficient and socially equal until I actually went there. Huge districts of the country are set aside for the masses of ruch Canadian tourists who pour in by the thousands every week. Barriers on main roads guarded by armed government security Making dam sure natives can't get within 2 miles of the first resort. It's not a socialist country nor a communist haven. It was and is a dictatorship

Self sufficient! Without Russia, they would have foundered long ago. El dictador is right.

Communism has always been founded on dictatorships. Nice idea in theory, not workable in reality.

Any way apart from the us anti Castro propaganda there is much to admire. A man with a vision for his country gave up his families high society status to arrive back from exile on a old boat with a hand full of men to over throw the us backed Batista against all odds . But even by his own admission Castro was nothing without Ernesto Guevara . The success or failure of the revolution can be measured by the fact Fidel managed to live in the shadow of the USA and be a torn in its foot and the fact that Fidel played the soviets well . But remember when we hear how great the USA is we forget that America isn't a fan of universal health care for all it's citizens and Cuba spends more per head on health care than the USA . Cubas economic woes can be attributed to the trade blockacade and fall of Soviet Union.but remember Fidel was a man with vision unlike many today who are short sighted

As much as out and out capitalism, power of money and big corporations and lack of justice, oversight and true accountability in the United States utterly disgusts me, glorifying a man like Castro and his 'achievements' disgusts me even more.

I don't care how well intended it may have all been, what counts is the end result. In that respect, both the US and Cuba, in many ways the results of two opposites of the scale, are very far from enviable in my book...

Did we not just glorify similar achievements here in Ireland when similarly a band of ill equipped men took on the British empire .does that achievement disgust you or is it the fact that cubas biggest export is doctors as opposed to exporting arms or irrelevant material goods . Is it that Cuba removed the us united fruit company from Cuba so that its profits went back into the state as opposed to the us board .

Had you actually read my earlier response intelligently, you would know the answer to the question you asked is not any of the possible answers you offer up.

Absolutely nothing wrong in rising up to fight true oppression and win your freedom, problem is if you win and then go on to oppress and tyrannise the same people you claim to have fought for.

I'll say it again so that this time it hopefully doesn't escape you, the key is in the end result (hint: both the US AND Cuba are utterly ff'ed up in their own spectacular special ways)

I'm from Latin-America and I can tell you this man and his late friend Hugo Chavez (dead too) put their citizens in the position of risking their lives (jumping into the water in homemade boats to get to USA) leaving their families and country looking for a decent life, he was a murderer of his own people.

Like in my country these guys disguise their purpose of a dictator regime behind the idea of a revolution towards socialism

Batista’s “death toll” is estimated between “hundreds” and “ a couple of thousands”. The mean estimate of Fidel Castro’s killings is 70–85000. It goes up to 145,000.

Genocide watch lists Fidel as 10 times more lethal than Batista.

Agreed, however, someone else's opinion seems to be that one dictatorship's killing (Batista's) excuses the other (Castro's) because the former was US (evil) backed and the latter was a freedom fighter revolitionist... As I said before, clueless.
