Being too nice can get you walked all over..I learned that a long time ago. So now I am nice to people who desearve it, but can be the most brutal person ever to anyone who is nasty to me. I don't believe you have to be nice all the time bs..it's impossible. |

Being "too nice" is what happens when someone has low self-esteem and poor boundaries. They allow people to take liberties or create a false front because they fear not being liked,then get all humpy because they're not getting what they want and this is when they turn nasty. |

About 500 years or so ago, when nice was first used in the english language, it meant "foolish or stupid." coming from the Latin nescius, meaning "ignorant." so I believe you have to know the source of something to see if it's other connotations. Today the word "Nice" has plenty...
Myself, I think "nice" can imply being respectful and attentive ...but can at times come from a place of neediness whereas being "respectful", "obliging" or "cordial" might be better words and tact to use as "Being Nice" is still be viewed by some as a weakness or a "soft touch"
Now, "Too nice" is interesting as this can be viewed as not having a backbone, being scared of rejection or conflict or trying to appease & please people which usually ends up as the "nice person" becoming a doormat ...and that's never good 
Regarding men and being a nice guy or not?... I see a spectrum with "Nice guy" and "Bad boy" as the extremes  On the one hand you have the Nice guy trying to impress the girl  and being polite, attentive and empathetic. On the other end, you have the Alpha male who knows what he wants, thinks only about himself, his needs and is selfish. But guess which one of these usually fares better with women??? Hmmmm I do wonder...
So, for any fella's out there wondering "Nice or not?", I'd say stay somewhere in the middle as "A Good Man" i.e.

I don't think anyone can be too nice people who are always nice are usually fake and in the end it shows. I'm polite and treat people with respect and even if I don't agree with something I will usually disagree politely. But push me and I will have mo qualms telling someone in no uncertain terms where to go. Niceness and politeness should never be mistaken for meekness.
