This is when a man (or woman) says something offensive and decides whether they were joking based on the reaction of people around him, this happens quite often in the forums, (just seen another example of this) where the Op starts to back peddle when he realised what he said was pretty shitty and people aren’t having it. I think at least have the plums to stand by your original statement. Anyone else noticed Schrödinger's douche bag in the forums ?! |

Schrödingers Douche Bag. Did you come up with that, or is it an actual thing?
Either way, it’s awesome and made me laugh my arse off
Oh... and yes... noticed it. |

I’d like to say I come up with it, but it’s something I saw on the inter web, it tickled me, cause I’ve seen it plenty of times on here, but didn’t realise there was a name for it. I usually say ‘Is that the sound of back peddling I can hear?!’ when someone does it in the forums, let’s face it, most of the times it’s a bloke. |

To be honest I see more of the opposite. Posts that are clearly jokes but taken excessively seriously. Obviously everything is open to being misread but sometimes I think people are just looking for a fight or intentionally misreading things to try and cause a bit of drama. |

"On the flip side though, something being a joke isn't always a good defence. Jokes can still be offensive, especially when the audience isn't appropriate. "
Being offended doesn’t mean you’re right. |

Yep especially when it is passed of as 'banter' "sorry, just having bants" makes my shit itch |

Some men are offended when a woman on here doesn’t reply, just cause he’s taken it personally, doesn’t mean she did anything wrong cause he’s offended, a woman has ever right not to reply. Just cause someone’s offended, doesn’t mean it has to be respected. |

You posted that people claim to be joking when others are offended by their post. I said that jokes can still offend. I don't really understand what you're trying to say. |

My original post was that people test the water out first when they post something slightly controversial, if it goes tits up, they then claim it was all a joke and chill out guys, etc etc, it’s not having the balls to stick by the original post that annoys me. I’m just saying the offended bit is subjective, people can choose to be offended or not, either way nothing happens when you’re offended. |

Haha okay but in the situation you posted about the person clearly does care about offending as otherwise why would they try to backpeddle? Saying something is a joke isn't a get out of jail free card though. |

"Anyone else noticed Schrödinger's douche bag in the forums ?!"
Ha! Thanks for sharing. I wasn't aware of the term. So I Googled it and Urban Dictionary explained it by saying "he", "his", "him" etc.
Is this a man thing then?
(waiting for response...) |

Yeah, totally. I typed men, then thought I’d better include everyone, so changed it. |

Great term, thanks OP - I had not heard of the "douchebag" part of it, just the cat.
I think one of the problems not just on Fabs, but in any written communication, that despite emojis we often cannot communicate the emotion accurately. That is why many posts are taken the wrong way, serious when they were not intended to be and vice versa.
Benefit of doubt might be administered as a helpful way to not be offended perhaps? |

‘‘Tis true! I often think that I can hear that strange whirring sound of pedals going the wrong way.
Sometimes people make assumptions about a forum post/poster based on their OP, where there wasn’t anything to be inferred, other times they’re back tracking faster than a camper facing a bear |

You can often hear them grinding the clutch as they whack it in reverse! |

I agree with everything you say OP. However, I reserve the right to agree with someone else if they are hot. Unless they eventually side with you or someone I don't like.
I think that covers the bases. |

I always agree with hot women, it’s funny how hot women are always right about everything. |
