A not to popular member of staff left last week he had been there about 28 years they had a collection for him and out of a staff of about 50 the grand total for 28 years was £74 and 20p I put £10 in surely he was worth more or not |

I don't see why length of service should automatically lead to a bigger amount collected. It's the company that gets the benefit of long-term staff retention (hopefully).
I would have thought a better reason for getting more in a whip-round is how well a person treats others. |

Maybe you should of given more, if you did and the other people did, then that £74 wouldn’t of been that tiny amount. Poor guy, £74 you raised, that’s shameful.

He did better than a work colleague I knew. 30years service. At the close of business and his final day, the company owner and suits he kept around to chuckle painfully long at his unfunny jokes, made an appearance. A cringy please ground swallow be now speech was given, before a cheap bottle of wine was handed to him and a handshake. Not a golden handshake, a handshake.
I felt disgusted by the insincerity and sad for him. Never forgot it.

I put £10 in collection and a personal card was unsure really I was banking on most people putting £10 in so would of been a good amount |

As I remember I paid for snooker and drinks that week. We used used to play Sunday mornings. My intended point, was that no many years you work somewhere, you're swiftly forgotten and easily replaced. |

I took voluntary redundancy a while back. I was on annual leave when I applied and they said I needn't go back (that was standard in case we did some awful damage to the software or something). I went in to destroy the evidence er I mean clear my emails and desk, my immediate supervisor gave me a sewing kit and the big boss gave me a bouquet and a speech. I'd been there about 15 years. Ten of my closest colleagues took me out for dinner and gave me individual gifts later.
Nobody took up a collection on my behalf and I hadn't really thought about it until now  |

My last day is Friday and I don’t expect for it to be a big thing. A small acknowledgment such as £25000 cash, a meadow of roses and a firework display in the evening to round off what should be the work do of the century. |
