I’m currently watching football (go sports!) and it’s occurred to me just how odd national anthems are.
Short little pompous pieces of allegiance to their respective nations, filled with amazement about how great their country is (or how much they hate England, Scotland I’m looking at you!)
As a way of breaking the mould, what would you have as a national anthem and for the more creative amongst you, what lyrics would you use? |

That would definitely be more rousing "

There are great anthems from Wales, France, Russia and some others. Then there are others not so easy on the ear.. the English one is not great. Would prefer Rule Britannia or Land of Hope or Glory.. |

So a bit of choreography tied in as well? It makes a change from desperately grasping your chest area |

Wouldn’t change it, think there’s a fair bit of history to some of the anthems too, way bigger than me to pass judgement on what I know very little about. As a sport anthem, I find it entertaining. |

I love "God save the Queen" solely for watching how wrong and out of time everyone gets it. The players, the crowd and the music are all so out of sync always makes me chuckle.
Seriously watch the football tomorrow and see, it's often the most entertaining part of an England game

I’m ex military and find it slow and boring but tbh if the Queen genuinely ever needs saving what a better man than God to do it. He’s the guy for the job.

Try whistling the French anthem then merge into the USA anthem as one |

No football and no sports would be amaaazing. I'd be a bit worried about what all those people who have "GO SPORTS" as their entire personality would do with all that energy instead, but hopefully we could find something helpful and productive for them to do instead.
Tribalism is rife, tragically. And if we don't change that, our entire species and quite a lot of the life on this planet is doomed.

For the English I would recommend Cock Sparrer (England Belongs to Me)
Scotland (Caledonia)
As much as I love The Flower of Scotland it's in the same category as God save the Queen.

Interesting. Even animals play sports. Have you seen dolphins playing ‘chase/pass the seaw e ed ’? They’re deemed to be highly intelligent in the animal kingdom. Chimpanzees, monkeys, elephants and more have been recorded playing ‘tribal’ games. Even non tribal sports; bears and even birds ‘skiing’ is normal.
It would seem there may be a correlation between the intelligence of a species and the need to play ‘tribal’ sports.
Good creative energy, it would seem. |
