Osteoarthritis - help anyone?

I see there's been threads on this, though over a year ago. Has anyone else more up to date advice or suggestions to help me?
My Osteoarthritis is at the worst level possible in both knees, hands, wrists and allied pains in my right arm.
I'm having Left Knee Joint rebuild Surgery in September, but my GP doesn't wish to change my painkillers, as the fear is my medications regime for other conditions (which are under very good control) could be compromised. I'm currently on 'Zapain'.
I've 3 months to wait for the Pain Team seeing me. I'm crippled with hand pain for most waking hours, wear constriction gloves day and night, but struggle with sleep. I've bad days and good days, though the latter aren't many!
Anyone gone through the same problems and has any ideas to help me?
Thanks in advance. |

Sorry for your struggles OP. I don't have experience of your condition but I have dealt with daily chronic pain. The thing that helped me the most was pain management through mindful meditation. I would recvomend it to anyone who us dealing with long term daily pain.
It takes some practice and commitment but it pays off.
You can Google for practioners near you or follow online courses.
I think there are some NHS practitioners you could get a referral.
Good luck

Acupuncture? Someone near to you... One of my joint's flares up from time to time & the pain goes off the chart. Pain killers from doc's does not work.
I found this to be quite good. It just depends what your money sitruation is as it ain't cheap!

I have something similar that the traditional medicines couldn't touch. I booked a course if six acupuncture. By treatment number four, I couldn't believe the relief she achieved. I still have pain, but at a level I can deal with. Same woman cured my sciatica some years ago. |

The Pain Team have said, through my GP, they'd look at Acupuncture. Great! But there is a 3 month waiting list. My GP won't consider referring me anywhere else as he is part of a Corporate Group which has taken over around 18 surgeries in town.
Their Group HQ also run the Pain Management team! The remaining Surgeries are run, so I've heard by a rival Corporate Health Group!
I'll look at the options you suggested. |

I feel your pain. I Have in knees and shoulders. Had one knee replaced and other one needs doing but found out yesterday no op until BMI is near 30. It's such a debilitating issue. Painkillers don't touch the pain and I've learnt to live with pain by not pushing myself when the pain kicks in. Not helpful I know sorry. Hope you get some relief soon. |

"CBD oil, if you'd be happy to try that. Just needs to be taken a few hours either side of any other medications.
Also you might benefit from supplements like B12, magnesium and Vit D."
My last GP in Warwick, (I left there last Nov after redundancy, and moved home to Hull) placed me on B12. It helped in some ways, but I was finishing late last year, a Knee Pain Relief Drug Trial by a US company with the intention of later this year giving results of the trial.
For 14 months, I was totally pain free. Since stopping that, I'm back to square one. |

My course of six was £225. Worth every penny. |

"Accupuncture helps"
I know, but as I've mentioned above, the NHS Pain Team's waiting list is 3 months away but I'll see if anyone else does it privately.
Problem is, I'm on State Pension, so costs may be a problem. |

Thanks. One more thing to ask him, when I get his teleconsulting call in SIX weeks. Then he'll sort out the time to go and see him, about another 2 weeks beyond that! |
