My family is from south London but I moved out when young and I'm shocked at the frequency of their use of the word cunt .

I prefer swearing not to be part of normal conversation. English has the largest vocabulary of any language, surely they can come up with an alternative?

I don't find it offensive or anything, but I tend not to be drawn towards people who swear in general conversation.

For me swearing in when you're particularly frustrated or angry or during sex... I rarely swear orher than during sex.

Interesting, I have a filthy mouth, but abhor swearing during sex, it really does take all sorts, doesn’t it.

Life has more things that annoy you when you get older. I feel I swear much more than my teenage counterpart. I swear under my breath more than anything. Or louder if I'm on my own.

I rarely swear, takes a lot to wind me up enough these days to swear in general conversation.

Try the book "Black Sheep. The hidden benefits of being bad."

There's a whole chapter on swearing and it's benefits. They recount an experiment where swearers reduced their feelings of pain by swearing!

But swearing has also got a downside I think. I know a woman who uses the word cunt with her teenage son as if it's an everyday word. I cringe when I hear them.

It's all about context! I'd be very unlikely to use the word cunt in mixed company, unless it's toward the end of a hot sex session, where for me it seems to fit perfectly!

Do you use it in the same way?

"It's the parents who swear at their children for swearing, that get me... "

Yes, they are the worst.

I saw a video once of a guy screaming at his son because his son was verbally abusive to some members of staff at Asda.

"You fucking little prick! You don't ever speak to anyone like that you stupid dickhead! Tell them you're fucking sorry!"

Hmm, I wonder why your son thought it was an ok thing to do.

We very rarely swear in normal day to day life…

…but get us into bed and we turn into religious dockers - Jesus and God get mentioned a lot, along with a number of swear words…

I dnt think it matters where you come from. Excessive use of bad language isn't necessary. It irks me to death it being used as a conversation. I swear and do use the C Word in the bedroom but dnt find i need to use it to express myself. Like to think im an intelligent person and have better use of words from the English language

Rubbish I know thousands of words and fuck is still my favourite. (Quote from a famous scot)

It's multifunctional and can be used as a verb, noun, adjective. Past present and future tense. An insult or a term of endearment.

It's not what words you know its knowing how to use words properly

Never in the office or around strangers. However, if said strangers are doing it, I will mimic as part of a social engagement technique,

Never "at" or directed at a person, friend or foe. (Unless part of aforementioned technique)

Occasionally "at" an inanimate object as a form of stress reduction.

But in my inner head, oh dear, it's a constant litany that would make a sailor blush.
