Whether it's book to film, film to video game or video game to film, what adaptations do you consider the worst?

I disliked The Mask film because I read the comics first, though I appreciate that if they'd kept stuck closer to the source material it would have been rated 18.

The Aliens vs Predator films have nothing on the comics they're based on.

The Tom cruise version of war of the world's, what a load of shite that was

The Harry Potter films. Fantastic range of actors but the screenplay really let it all down. Not true to the vibe of the books at all and sooo much skipped over.

I really enjoyed that? The sound was incredible on that. Especially the booming horns of the Aliens. Really filled you with dread.

The recent Dorian Gray with Ben Barnes in it - so dire. Really, really bad. Even Colin Firth couldn't save it.

Oh and the Percy Jackson adaptations.

My Sister's Keeper. They changed the entire emotional climax of the book. I wasn't a huge fan of the book but to change the entire end in the film just misses the whole point.

Nothing specific, but I do hate it when they change the sex or race of the characters.

I agree but can you imagine how many more films they’d have had to make to get all the details in

I still enjoy both films but Jaws and Green Mile are different from the books.

The Thomas Harris books that the Hannibal Lectar films are based on are better too. Still love the films though

Neither are 'poor' but the two adaptions of The Great Gatsby didn't come close to putting the book on screen.

Learnt long ago if you’ve read the book you are more than likely to be disappointed with the film. There is so much more to a book that a film cannot capture, your imagination builds its own voices and characters, along with those small bits that you think are so fitting to the story but the screen writers obviously don’t or just change the endings all together.

An example of this for me is Asterix, grew up reading these but when I saw the film the voices were all wrong. I had Obelix as this big string gruff man but in the movie he’s strong but a whining boy voice.

The only films that have managed to capture the book for me, are A Time to Kill and Schindler’s List.

You're damn right, I read the Alien trilogy before seeing any of the films and they were far scarier due to imagination. I love the Alien and Aliens films but they were tame compared to the novels.

Maybe also why some great films have been made from mediocre books, such as The Godfather? Good

filmmakers are then able to add to the source rather than subtract from it in the case of great books.

The Pillars of the Earth was a fantastic story but a not very well written book. Turning it into a TV miniseries really did it a favour!

Weirdly the sequel was a better book than TV series; the bits they changed were the wrong bits.

Every porn parody.

Honestly, the costumes are way off, and the villains always end up making love with the female heroes.

It's way off!

The Italian Job remark is far too contrived and about the only thing in common is the film title.

Brideshead Revisited film is a shadow of the original series where Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews' characters relationship is subtle and understated whereas the film is blatant and almost crass.

The film Wanted was dire compared to Mark Miller's comics. But RED by Warren Ellis and the Kingsman (the adaption of Secret Service) by Mark Millar where the films are far better than the source material.

I have no issue where the race and gender are changed. On the basis that race and gender should not be changed, when Shakespeare wrote his plays women were played by young boys and Othello was blacked up. Any Shakespeare production that does not meet the criteria is clearly wrong.

Art and literature is about imagination and is regularly adapted to it times.

Wirral.

I get upset when I've read a book & conjure an image of the characters in my mind - especially when a physical description by the writer is open to interpretation - and they get someone totally at odds with that to play the part in the film. Usually a Hollywood "heavyweight", for the funding.

I will never forget Tom Cruise in Interview With A Vampire or Winona Ryder as Mina in Dracula.

That was a huge twist in the book and a great one. Would love to see where the author takes the story of Catelyn and the revenge that comes with it.

Pretty much most game and anime adaptations are god awful! It's actually easier to mention the very few that where good.

I'm looking at you 90's Mortal Kombat (not amazing but fun), Silent hill 1 (pretty close to spot on) and Battle Angel Alita (original version was terrible to begin with)... Hmm can pretty much count all the good stuff on 1 hand.
