A friend of mine is paying ten thousand pounds more for a shipping container since covid. I heard that someone in China gathered all the containers together and he is basically putting his own price on them. No competition, people have to pay it. |

Cyclicality is endemic in shipping. I've been in procurement 26 years (gulp), and this is the fourth or maybe fifth cycle I've been through.
This one, in my opinion, will take longer to rebalance than previous cycles because the impact of Covid has been so substantial globally for such an extended period, but I don't doubt that eventually the containers will find their way back to a more even distribution, just in time for the next shock to disrupt them again.
In terms of pricing the cost of shipping may drop, but whether that makes its way through the entire value chain to the end consumer is a very different question (who noticed a drop in energy pricing when the oil price briefly collapsed last year?). |

"Goods coming into the country have shot up in price. I wonder will the price ever come back down?
"
Probably never and it’s to do with britex
When we were in the EU is was free trade shipping form EU contry to EU contry
so all the big manufacturers seen a loop hole
Find the cheapest place in the eu to import to them ship the goods free off charge from there
So for talking sake
Samsung phone the uk how much to ship 100 tv in the uk that will be £100 import fee
Samsung call belgum how much to ship 100 tv in
Ooo that will be £50 import fee
So Samsung save £50 pre 100 units shipping everything in to belgum then re rooting to the uk useing the eu no import free shipping rule
Witch means or government were missing out on cash but us as a consumer we’re benefiting from lower priced goods Sins the manufacturers were able to ship those goods in to the contry cheap
That’s why if you oder anything direct from Microsoft it got shipped from Sweden and not the uk
Now we paying the price due to the eu being salty and wack the price to import in to the uk up
Plus we need to deal with or greedy government tax on top off that

That as well but the main thing that’s have a effect on price
Can’t expect a company to have the same profits margins of the cost pre unit has went up ten fold witch means the price has got to be upped to keep the profits margins the same |

"Perfect time to start up a bargain shipping container business then, made from recylced tin foil and bean tins. "
You can also convert shipping containers into housing, they'll be fetching a quarter of a million pound soon |

Ive stayed in one many a time on holiday, I love them. Always fancied retiring to a container home on a hill, not at that price though |

That would be impossible believe me. It is actually the cost of fuel as the cost of oil has gone up due to demand and less oil being produced |

You don't believe it? That's only one.. I deal with a lot of importers and they have all told me this.
Not impossible it's happening |

The cost of a shipping container or the cost to ship a container?
If the cost to ship a container I can well believe it - the cost of me shipping a 20' container of cashews from Vietnam was five times higher in February 2021 than it was in February 2020. |

The cost to ship a 40 footer.
One of the companies I deal with imports rubber matting and the cost per item for the last 15 years was always around £9 to £11 landed in the UK and now its around £16!
I've never seen it like this before. We use to panic when things increased by a few pence but this is ridiculous and unheard of.

More than that try 1.1 million there a company in the us that markets them selfs on this exact thing was a big scandal not to long ago
They built what they called a dooms day bunker and all it is cut up ship contenders dug underground
They hoxed a bunch off gun YouTubers in to by offering them free bunkers for promotion
The bunkers that were offered to the YouTubers we’re nothing like the ones that were offered to general public
The company name is rising bunkers |

Largely indisputable except for the second last point. No one is being salty. We decided to become a third country. This is the price we pay for our stupidity. People screamed that this would be among the consequences. And now that it has they claim it's those bastard Europeans. It's pathetic really. |

Someone in China gathered all the shipping containers together - lol thats one big field he must have. I doubt the cause is quite so simplistic

I wasn't referring to containers coming from parts of Europe to the UK but yes they have gone up in price too. More to pay when they enter our ports. |

This is true and one of the main reasons why goods coming in have shot up in price. I know a guy who ordered stuff from a manufacturer before container prices increased and now he's selling it just to make his money back. He couldn't back out of the deal. |
