With the interest rates at 0.01% is it worth keeping it in the bank?

Years ago you could save for the future, banks are now a place to keep money safe but not earn any interest.

There is talk of banks charging soon.

Coming up to retirement age soon. Cant bank on the Govt to look after us. Pension age will increase as it has done every year.

I think there is going to be serious problems in regards to looking after the elderly.

I used to be cash heavy but since redundancy that’s changed. Fortunately the house has increased so my net worth is much the same as 5 years ago.

My investment plods along but unfortunately I couldn’t leave my pension until 55 and withdraw it, in which case my net worth would have been over a million.

But after covid I have no real regrets about being out of work. I’m at a risky age and could well have never known a retirement of any sort.

About 15% less than there should as the UK inland revenue decided that the harder you work the more you earn and therefore they are going to punish you by taxing you an extra 15% ! Oh and once you go over a certain figure they are going to knock £1000 off of your tax free allowance for every additional £1000 you earn! Great incentive to do your best in life!

If this is a “look at me” thread, the amount would need to be significantly more impressive.

Secondly, keeping money in the bank isn’t smart, money needs to make money and it won’t do that sitting in a bank account.

Oh dear.

Selling my car and downsizing

Sleeping on a blow up mattress on a friends floor for now ( not long term )

Long term would like to buy a motor home and travel and work my way around the uk.
