I remember dial a disc. You rang up and a full song would play.

Being able to just walk to your mates or families houses, walk in unannounced, and be welcomed.

‘At the last stroke’

I found an old Blockbuster membership card the other day. Possibly the best Friday nights when it was my turn to pick the video and the ice cream! Simpler times.

Having a phonecard because my mum knew if she gave me 'emergency phone money' I'd just waste it on on sweets.

And then never being able to find a green phone box that took phonecards!

"Sherry being advertised on telly, does anyone drink sherry ?"

Occasionally I drink sherry - usually at Christmas times and reminded me of my dad as he traditionally bought sherry then and we'd always have one before dinner .

Delivering newspapers on a Christmas Day, many years ago, getting £5 for it, double time then getting a £20 tip from a customer, happy days!

Listening to the pop charts on a Sunday evening with your mates, waiting to hear who was number one.

When I was a lonely, spotty teenager, I may have phoned some very nice ladies who were totally turned in by talking to “big boys” like me.

They clearly loved every minute of the conversations, and I’m sure they wished they could meet for real.

*to be clear, I’m not proud of the above*.

Phone boxes, on the rare occasions that I see one I remember how we used to use them, to need them and, sadly, how we misused them.

"Sherry being advertised on telly, does anyone drink sherry ?"

I do it is a fabulous and much underrated drink. From the very dry up to the sweet that goes so well with puddings, or just poured over ice cream.

The crap they used to advertise is to be avoided, but ignoring sherry because of that is like never drinking wine because you realised

Blue Nun was crap.

N ignore all of the above. If sherry remains unliked by so many it will remain a bargain price.

o o OO o o

My Nan and gramp went on holiday for a week and I used their phone to ring up the dirty sex chat lines (I went to their house for my School dinner) I tried all of them in a list out of curiosity.

Few weeks later there’s hell to pay cos the phone bill is in. I had to fib and say I’d been ringing the dial a disk thing. Made my bum sweat that did!
