Judges on shows

Do you find some choices of judge on TV shows are a really bad choice, as in they have no expertise or bring nothing to the table?

I was watching a rapper judge up and coming rappers and say in a quick freestyle that he needed to spit something that people would remember. When that’s rich as no one can remember any of his crap.

Another example might be Craig off of strictly. Not that I watch it, but once saw him dance on an opening of a show and he was terrible. How can you judge anyone if you are not very good yourself?

Thoughts?

It is possible to know what good [insert activity here] is without being capable of it yourself. I can hear when somebody is playing an instrument well even if I can't play that instrument. Somebody can identify good writing without being able to write that well. Knowing a subject is not the reliant on being able to do it.

Craig is there because these judging shows traditionally always have the harsh judge who "tells is like it is". I can remember this as far back as seeing Nina Myskow "the bitch in the box" on New Faces in the 80s. Craig doesn't need to be able to dance. He needs to be willing to take the type of criticism for his performance that he gives to others.
