I got told it was after the meteorologist who first noticed the storm. No idea if that's right though.

North West /Cumbria

Herbert saffir an engineer and Robert Simpson a meteorologist Collabed and came up with the Simpson hurricane wind scale (sshws) to determine the cat of a storm, but don't actually know why there named.
