Agree or disagree?

It’s an old saying, but I get where it comes from.

Disagree. There are loads of people with staggeringly low self esteem who love deeply

In a Sparkly Dress

For healthy mutual love I agree

There unfortunately are many many other layers and actions that are said and done under the supposed guise of love...

Disagree

Having the love of another reflected can be a great way of finding a love of yourself

I think it works best if you do love yourself first, as negative thoughts, self doubt and low self esteem can cause a huge negative impact on a relationship.

I do however think that you can madly love someone else but not love yourself.

it's not healthy to love someone deeply without being able to love yourself since it can leave you quite vulnerable. but i think you can still love yourself to an extent even with low self esteem.

i think that's why its more a general rule of thumb type thing, rather than a set in stone rule.
