Laaaadies can any of you recommend a decent comfortable saddle for long rides?

I’ve got some good padded shorts but rides longer than 15miles just really hurts the lady parts

(will also await for ‘riding’ jokes/comments )

My saddle has a cut out section down the middle. It does take a fair few miles to break a saddle in.

Gel shorts are the best and no underwear

There’s a place in London I had a saddle made for me. They literally measure your backside and make it accordingly. Was about £300 but is amazing

Not a lady, but get yourself one with the centre cutouts. That takes direct pressure of your bits.

I’d also highly recommend applying chamois cream pre-ride.

Fiery flap syndrome is no laughing matter.

I'm sure someone somewhere will sell one with a vibrator attached... probably doubles too. Who says cycling can't be fun?

My current one has a small cut out but maybe it’s not the right shape/size!

Custom made sounds a dream but can’t quite afford that.

Thanks for the reply

My cut out on the saddle is almost the full length of it

OK, saddles are like running shoes, it might take trying a few to find the one.

It's just par for the course. Some shops loan them, but as everyone is different, be careful with recommendations.

Soze is right, chamois creme, no underwear with the padded shorts.

Also adjust saddle height, fore aft and angle accordingly.

Seriously, if you want more advice, pm me.

How often do you ride OP? If I'm not riding at least one a week all longer rides are uncomfortable. When I ride regularly they're fine.

Is it true that women get stimulated when riding a bicycle and that is why there are so many on our roads ?

I must have missed news that said the number of female cyclists on the roads are greater than male cyclists

Once a week ish, will be more soon as training for a long ride next year.

Done it before; 56miles!

I think I just need to get used to the longer rides again. But I have had this saddle a looooong time!

The cobbles tend to attract more female cyclists and especially up north where there are more cobbled streets...

What kind of saddle do you have now? I've seen plenty of people using ones large enough to be sold in DFS, huge padding isn't actually good as it leads to unnatural bio-mechanics and chaffing.

There's a plethora of options, chain reaction cycles or wiggle is a safe bet (same company tbh). Have a browse, check reviews, go from there.

It can easily, so very easily, run away with itself with certain materials and exotica. Try and keep it simple, focus on shape before the rest. It might take a few attempts but once you zero in on your "shape", you'll be fine.

Also echoing other comments, more saddle time, less aches. You might just need to get yourself used to it again, perfectly normal, happens to us all.

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I remember reading that the GB olympic cyclists allowed their pubic hair to grow and it acted like a natural lubricant reducing chafes etc.

Also, there are different 'grades' of padding, so research carefully and buy appropriate to the length of time you're planning to be riding. Definitely makes a difference!

Go to a decent bike shop with female

staff and get a bike fit including a saddle fit.

Not all that North of North London

Are you wearing decent shorts, just because they are padded doesn't mean they have a decent pad. And they need to be female specific.

Some shops_brands allow you to test a saddle I think

Thank you, really is much appreciated.

Yes I’ve seen some ‘over padded/large’ saddles and figures that’s too much.

My padded shorts are a decent brand and also female shorts.

I think I’ll give it a few more weeks of longer rides first and see how it goes.

Thanks again

I have a really hard, cut out one, designed for females. It made an enormous difference to the standard one the bike arrived with

Go to your nearest descent bike shop that has some on display and ask if you can try some out before you buy most descent bike shops will gladly help you out if they can.

If I have a break, I find my arse resents it more than my muscles and it takes a few weeks to get used to the saddle again.

The other thing no one has mentioned is chamois cream I've never bothered with it but know plenty of people who swear by it

I found it to be trial and error. Like others have said one with a good cut out did the job. But I am male and it was my gouch that was painful.

Hi,

Go to a good shop and get your saddle bones measured properly. They will then show you which size saddles fit you.
